MLK weekend

Don’t over think skiing this weekend. Head to Central /Northern VT where the snow is falling and avoid crowds. Drive carefully if it’s snowing on the drive tonight and dress appropriately for the cold on Sunday. I would rather ski powder on the weekend than be envious when I read trip reports on Monday.

That's where I was thinking too, they're slated for another 4 to 8 inches up there on top of the 5'ish they got yesterday. Only thing is, NOAA is calling for -30s windchill up there, which is more than my delicate self can take.

That was what puzzled me. Right now, Burke are reporting only 50% open and Jay wasn't much better. Even Bretton Woods are less then 50%. So I was wondering if they're just "saving" the new trail for the weekend (or at least, are just too busy grooming them)? Or are all the natural trails just don't have ANY base and even the 6-8" won't get them covered?

It's a long drive. Hence the last minute calculating...

Yeah, hopefully a few of those days come in with some 2-3 inch nights. There may not be any giant storms so far this year, but we can get more terrain open with a ton of 2-3 inch bursts + snowmaking.

Mmmm... definitely a toss-up as whether head up this weekend to brace the cold and thin base. Or wait till next weekend (and risk thaw/ice) with the hope for a bit more open terrain...

Jay's problem is that they don't have Ullr's online yet. Ullr's is the runout for every trail to skier's left of the Flyer. Without Ullr's, they can't open over a dozen runs over there. Their web site says that they are winching it Saturday. Such a shame it wasn't open before this storm. One of Jay's snow making weaknesses is that they need to get the lower elevation condo and connection trails open and connect the mountain. Even given the challenging weather, I am a bit surprised they didn't get Ullr's online sooner.

Agree with the over thinking. I know you have left. It's all about setting expectations.
If you can. Deal with not being pampered you can have a blast. I haven't skied so much "thin cover" in 30 years. Blasting thru grass, hopping ditches just the way it was back in the day. The wood are soft and didn't get wet.
Back to the bootfitter tomorrow. Home to plan next Friday.

All i'll say is that the drift in my front walkway when I got up to Mount Snow tonight was knee deep on my 6'3" frame! AND IT WAS AND STILL IS PUKING SNOW!!! Crazy whiteout driving coming in from I-91 though! Lost count of the number of cars in ditches next to the road

Read over on K-Zone that I-91 is closed between exit 3 & 4 because of icing.

I know I was over-thinking it. But I'm not alone!

The road were pretty bad coming up. Had to slow way down in many stretches. Though I expected that. Also saw no less than 5 SUV in the ditch! One of such was responsible for blocking I-91 for a good while (having dinner & checking google navigator).

Let's hope the skiing will be worth it!

It was windy, I see up to 35 gusts. How is the summit holding the snow. How much of it blew into the woods? The woods must be skiing great!
