You may want to try shorter poles. Serious bump skiers use much shorter poles than one would normally use. The length of your poles may actually be pushing you back a bit.

Check out the videos at this link to see what perfect hand position, and perfect technique overall, looks like...

Great link Harkin, thanks for sharing.

Greg, it's only my fourth season of skiing progressing real nice. One thing I've been trying to work on the last 2 seasons is bumps, if it makes you feel any better, wish I looked as good

check this out.

I'm just starting to get my turns and zipperline skiing down as well.

This site does a good job explaining it.

I've got my weight well over the skis now. I blew a ski off on a recent run because I was late on a turn, but was able to make 3 additional turns over some knee hight bumps before sliding to a halt in a "controlled crash". Just kept the boot next to the ski and it almost felt like I didn't need the other ski. However, didn't want to push my luck too far. Plus I still needed to get back to that ski.

This is the run I went down, but I'm not the skier pictured. Conditions were Spring, wet, slushy, and heavy.

Great old thread.... too bad the vids are gone.

Thanks a lot, Carrie. Now I feel compelled to re-upload these vids so you all can laugh at me. So......here you go:

Rumrunner Bumps Video #1. The light was flat this day, but it was my best day ever skiing bumps by far and I did it for much of the 4 hours I was out. There are a few instances in the video where I really cut the turn to slow things down, but I still kept my line. I kind of spaz out at the end and zipper it, but that part of the trail is flat and it's rather fun to do that.

Rumrunner Bumps Video #2. It's obvious here I'm still catching too much air off the backside of the bumps, but there are again a few instances where I think I effectively get my speed down without losing rhythm. Disregard the ultra-cheezy attempt at air at the bottom.

So...there it is. I'm putting myself out there for some criticism. I've skied with a few of you guys and value your opinions highly.

Pathetic.

Cripes. What's up with the call outs? Wel......I just so happen to have a compilation of my incredible skill and ability that I posted on the mogulskiing.net forum this spring:

So, yes, boys and girls, with some practice you too can reach the same level of radicalness that I achieved in a few short years.

Please, tell me there is some improvement there, or I might just jump off a cliff. ;) I still have a million miles to go, it seems... :(

This isn't a suck up post because you said you could totally see me as a chill guy to hang with ;), but I would classify your improvement as fairly remarkable. Looking at the vids you truly did suck that bad in 2004

...but in all seriousness, it would be one thing if you were some single guy who has progressed as far as you have by blowing off corporate america and moving to a ski town to bartend by night and ski everyday. The fact that you've done it while managing a career, wife, two wee ones AND the world's foremost skiing message board...........remarkable is the right adjective.

Aw, c'mon Greg! You loved that trip down memory lane! :D You have made remarkable progress over these last few years. Hard to imagine you skiing bumps with such a wide stance.

BTW, my daughter said (when watching that extra vid of 2004 that you added) "Wow, he's really fast!" to which she added, "Mom, you're not fast at all."
