I think this video has been posted a couple times here and there, but I haven't seen a thread dedicated to it. In the early 90's Winter Park took out the Eskimo Chairlift in dramatic fashion.

There are a few tests done, but the the interesting ones can be found at

4:28 - Rollback test
9:52 - Tree falling on haul rope test
11:27 - Fire Test

So I think it's safe to say if you're on a lift that's rolling back faster than the speed of a detachable lift, it would be in your best interest to jump off before you reach the bottom.

This test is old though. I think some resort needs to test a high-speed quad in this manner :D

So I've seen portions of that film...but not the whole thing. Interesting to say the least.

Hey Highway Gnar, I know you try and be all secretive, but I found a leaked video of you on the slopes, you may or may not have seen it before. I'm sure you're a hit with the ladies

I'm totally crushing it in that video.

Stumbled across this, surprised I never heard anything about it when it happened.

Wouldn't wanna be on this tramView attachment 17310. A friend of mine claims he was in the Jay tram when a strong, unexpected gust of wind knocked it into tower 1.

I've hit a few towers in Cannons old tram. That one only traveled on one rope while the new one has 2.Many moons ago the Ron,operater of one of the old trams went for quite a ride when it fell while running. He got pretty messed up from all the counterweights bouncing around with him.
