Resort or Ski Area:
Mt. Snow

Conditions:
COLD! Packed powder...and no lines!

Trip Report:
A very solid day at Mt. Snow yesterday. The big story was the cold....it was cold kids...cold! It wouldn't have been bad in the morning, but that wind was pretty cutting. We were on the hill by 8:30-8:45. Ended up hitting Sunbrook which has become our regular Sunday AM spot. Cloud Nine to Thanks Walt is an awesome run that time of day. The sun is brightly shining, the trail is groomed and fast and there's no one there. It's about as good as it get IMHO. A great way to get warmed up and start the day.

We ended up hitting the summit lodge around 10:15 just to warm up a bit. It was crowded, but we found a table. After that, we did a few more run on Sunbrook, then hit Carinthia. Lunch was a bit crowded to the cold and the Cub Scouts that commendeared a good number of tables in the Sundance lodge. If they were going to take over 3+ tables just to set up their buffet, they should have at least offered me some.

The afternoon was awesome. The wind had died down, the temps had moderated to a balmy 10-12F and everyone went home. The trails were in pretty good shape too. There were a few scratchy spots, but over all. great conditions. Snowdance was wonderful. One more time was scratchy, but was fun because off the rolling terrain and fast snow. Canyon had a little scratch on it, but the sides of Standard were nice.

Carinthia was in really good shape in the AM. The mini pipe on Mineshaft was nice and the features were as well. As far as Sunbrook goes, Cloudnine and Thanks Walk were great. Big and Little Dipper were a bit scratchy and you had to watch for patches. But those are natural trails, so that's expected.

I took some video today, but vimeo isn't agreeing with me; my uploads keep freezing at a certain point in the process. :-x :-x :-x :-x

Pics!

Oh, I think I spotted some Mt. Snow AZers....but I'm not 100% sure. Maybe some of you can help me out.

I think this was Dr. Jeff? Didn't get a chance to ask though:

Close Glenn ;) Actually in honor of Vcunning Steeler's playing in the Superbowl next Sunday, I made a grand entry from the Moover drop area to the main base lodge ;)

Man, that wind was brisk ;)

Actually as you said, an AWESOME, UNCROWDED, and COLD day!

I spent about an hour and half first thing lapping the Northface. Multiples on Ripcord, Jaws, Plummet(high speed GS bliss :)), Freefall and Olympic. Then a quick main face run through some great cord on Overbrook so I could watch my son "race" down the small magic carpet slope at about 2mph  4 or 5 runs through Sunbrook (Little Dipper was my favorite there), a few laps down Beartrap for re-warming purposes, and then finished thing off with a quick trip down to Carinthia via Mineshaft -> Prospector -> Iron Run -> Lower Nitro and then a few last ones off the roof down South Bowl, Hop :) :) and a last run for me down ledge to Pats Pitch to Standard.

After that, I need to do some serious warming up of the 10 ice cubes attached to my feet that sometime double as my toes

A little Sunday night humor, I think? ;)

Nice report, I'm sure the conditions were nice, but I bailed out on this weekend...I didn't think my six y.o. ski bunny would enjoy the brisk wind and cold temps enough.

I felt bad for the guy in the jeans and Starter coat. He had to be cold! I was layered up and still chilly, I can't even imagine how cold he was.

Jeff...I forgot to mention we did the North Face as well. Challenger was a great trail....a bit hardpacked, but fast! And there were few nice rollers on the trail that you could sail off if you hit em' right.

.

Glenn, the scary thing yesterday is your jeans guy wasn't the only jeans guy. I saw one other in a red ski coat down in the base area. Yesterday with the temps/wind the way it was, it was the type of day where the "frozen levi's" crowd stands out more than other days

I can't even imagine. Even with long johns on under the jeans, that wind has gotta cut right through you. I had 4 layers of pants on yesterday! While the Obermyer neon fartbag wasn't exactly in style, at least that guy was probably warm and comfortable.

*Edit
Jeff, were you near the base lodge around 2ish? The racks near the photo building? We made I pit stop and when waiting for my wife, I thought I saw you....but wasn't sure.

The only building I was near at 2ish was the Cub Camp side of the clocktower building as I was picking up my son around then. Plus I was "incognito" at that time wear my "Dr.Squeegee" outfit ;) The "scary" thing was, that even with just a mock turtleneck and my soft shell and no hat, the 13 or so degrees it was at that time felt VERY warm in the sun
