Resort: Mount Snow

Conditions: Bluebird sky, light winds, temps in the upper teens/low 20's, mainly a machine groomed/ packed powder surface where I was skiing

Report: I was lazy this AM if for no other reason then my daughter wanted to ski with me in the afternoon. So I figured I'd take the morning off and let the March sun work on the thermometer which started the day off in the low single digits. I hit the hill about 12:30 after scoring a 2nd row parking space and was ready for a fun afternoon of skiing with my 5 year old daughter, which for her meant Carinthia as the instructors for Snow Camp aren't supposed to take classes over there.

Up to the top and then Long John/Deer Run (still some untouched cord on the sides since it wasn't crowded at all today). The Mineshaft where my daughter got her 1st run through the mini pipe as I was having Euler wipeout broken collarbone thoughts while following her  she had a blast! Then propsector to lower titanium watching her hit the edges/sides of the jumps. Back up Nitro for another run down Mineshaft via the mini pipe to prospector to Iron Run as she wanted now to go through the Superpipe. Lower Iron run was closed, so we bailed onto lower Nitro just as chair #50 (the golden chair as just about any kid in any Mount Snow ski program will tell you) was headed down. So my daughter decides that we NEED to get that chair and she takes off in BIG, CONTROLLED GS arcs down lower Nitro(me grinning ear to ear as I was having to actually ski pretty well to keep up with her!) well thanks to a 3some of cigarette puffing, swearing boarders moving like molasses through the final loading area we ended up on chair #51

Back up, and once again Mineshaft via the mini pipe to Propsector to Iron Run and this time onto Inferno briefly and into the Superpipe. She had a blast getting maybe 3 or 4 feet up the walls, and I will say that after skiing through it that it's an impressive site seeing 18 or so foot walls from the tranny! A quick snack in the lodge and then me and her were off to hike Grommet 2 times since they don't spin the Ski Baba lift mid week. After those hikes, back up Nitro and over to the main base area for a few laps off Canyon Quad. One More Time to The Boonies where the kid was getting pretty darned close to actually charging the trees at close to my speed :) then back up for Upper Overbrook and it's ice bumps to a really sweet Overbrook and then one more lap down Overbrook headwall to Canyon to Illusion. Finished the day off for the 1st time with my entire family skiing a lift served run as my wife had my 3 year old son taking his first ride up the Discovery Chair and via a leash his first on ski run down Launch Pad!

A very good afternoon on the today! :)

do the kids have off from school this week?

Oldest kid is in a Montessori school which is basically learn at your own pace kind of thing, youngest is in pre-school so atleast for now we can take a vacation week whenever we want and NOT have any academic repercussions. Plus, for the last 10 years now my wife and I have always taken the 1st week of March as our ski vacation week - generally guarentees us GREAT snow and decent temps :)

ok i was wondering what you where doing up there.

Funny thing is that this week my wife has been spending more time day tripping to various shopping establishments all across Central/Southern New England than skiing  - Can't say I blame her Saturday and Sunday given the deathcookies/cold, but yesterday's run to Natick Mall and back was a bit of overkill if you ask me ;)

Isn't skiing with your kids great.

Yeah, until they get big enough to not want you around! lol!

Watch out there Jeff. She takes a shine to that park stuff and you won't be seeing the rest of the mountain! I have a bear of a time trying to keep my 8 year old on the mountain but away from Carinthia. He wants to ski Carinthia or go back to the condo...and not much in between.

The only saving grace I had today was that after a couple of runs through the parks, she asked me if we could go and ski some bumps and trees ;)

My youngest was the same way - bumps, trees, anywhere Dad would go, he'd be right behind. But then his park rat older brothers let him tag along one day last year...and that was the end of that. Unfortunately, they usually won't let him tag along, leaving me and my husband to deal with the "parks or nothing" issue. We've been doing the tag team thing of hanging out at Carinthia with him while the other skis. Not much fun for us anymore....kind of deja vu of when they were smaller and one of us had to camp out in the lodge. Knew I should have had one more kid to even us out!

A lucky man you are. Keep her that way.

I've done the "Golden Chair" lap a number of times. You can get some good vertical in that way.

Sounds like an excellent day.
