Even though the lift served downhill trails opened for the season today at Mount Snow (and they have a new fleet of Jamis DH bikes with 8" of rear suspension to rent), family responsibilites just wasn't going to give me the time I needed to grab a lift ticket and hit the downhill trails. So after heading over to Carinthia to watch some of the festivities going on with their Peace Pipe Rail jam, I unloaded my hardtail from the bike rack on my car and set off for the Crosstown trails.
Finally got around to taking the Robin Hood trail right from the top entrance off Handle Road, and boy am I glad I did! Just a really fun just over a mile of mainly downhill switchbacks with a couple of bridge crossings thrown in and no real climbing sections until after Robin Hood joins up with The Crusades trail as it's heading for the bottom where it meets back up with The Valley Trail. I had such a good time on this loop that I climbed back up The Valley Trail (including making a wrong turn and ending up at the Valley Trail entrance off Crosstown Road next to the Mount Snow golf course, instead of the Valley trail entrance off Handle Road After a bit of extra climbing, I finally got back to where I wanted to be and re-road the Robin Hood/Crusades route all the way this time down to where the Valley Trail meets the bottom of the Kingswood development. I then climbed out of Kingswood, back down Handle Road to Carinthia, rode by the now ending rail jam, and then climbed out of the Carinthia base, up trail 16 (the ski trail that's the combo of Sweet 16 and Season Pass in the winter) upto basically the bottom of the Sundance Chairlift, and then down and across the base area, out the North entrance of Mount Snow and across the street into my complex up here and back to my place.
About 9.5 miles in the saddle and 1:45 ride time. I don't have my Garmin software up here in VT, so I'm not sure what the total climbing/decent was, but based on my legs, i'm guessing that it was well over 2000 feet of climbing.
Just a fun ride and a fun day.
