We all have our good days, and our bad days while skiing; except HPD, he's always awesome. :smash:

Are there any mountains that seem to bring the best out in you in terms of technique, confidence, etc.? For me, it seems I'm always on my game at MRG. Perhaps you just have to be to survive. Of course, I've only skied there 3 times, but I've taken some drops and skied some terrain that I wouldn't normally ski so aggressively without much hesitation. Perhaps being surrounded by a lot of great skiers inspires you too.

Conversely, I seem to ski the crappiest at Hunter. Not sure why, but it seems to take me a while to find a rhythm there. I still love the mountain though.

For some reason I've never had a good experience at Killington. I've only skied there about 4 times and the conditions always were very cold and icy.

MRG has real snow. So we're like kids in a candy store there.

Hunter is a little more "packed powder"; like diamonds are packed carbon. Less forgiving.

Good for building the skill set, I suppose...

Not sure about any specific mountains. All i can say is i usually only feel "right" for a couple of runs a day.

on second thought, i'd have to say mt snow. why? cause i've gotten hurt there so many damn times.

I find that when I'm really trying to improve something that I don't feel like I'm skiing very well.

That's because you're going outside the box and using a skill that's not fully developed. All it means is that you're learning.

That's a good thing.

The wink is going to make people think you're not serious.

All fixed.

Conditions, terrain, tune, who I'm with, hung over or not, all effect my skiing, but I don't think which mountain I'm skiing has anything to do with it.

Probably skiing partners do have the most to do with it. I remember the first time I skied Hunter with Jim, I could barely keep up, but now I've probably skied with Jim more than anyone except for maybe Brian and Pat. I think skiing in groups of 3-5 is the best.

I ski best with other people and when I lead. Kinda wierd like that. Typically the mountain doesn't have much to do with it, just the conditions.

I ski more aggressively when I'm with others. I think there are two reasons for this. First, I feed off of the energy and comradery of skiing with a group. Secondly, when skiing with the AZ crew I'm usually trying to keep up and need to push myself harder. When I'm alone I think to much and tend to cruise.

I think that's in part why Waterville's kicked my butt the two times I was there...first time was right after a freeze/thaw (not ice but close to it) and the second time was right after a 4 - 6" snowfall (powder and lots of small bumps).

Same here...it's kind of hard to take it easy when you see everyone else bomb down the trail.

Hunter west when it's a sheet brings out the worst. When I can't get back there it really sets me off because the front side can get boring after a while. But when it's good I'm happy as a clam, er slug.

while i mostly ski k now, i do remember when i used to ski diff mtns i'd feel great at a stratton for example and then would get humbled at stowe or mrg. we get out to summit county colorado virtually every year and ski a diff area everyday and there again i can feel like a king at vail and then the next day go to a-basin and just feel like something's a bit off. so i guess there's some formula involving steepness, conditions & gnarl factor. i also agree totally with the folks who talk about lighting & visibility. bluebird days are the best.

Killington seems to bring out the best in me, every time I go there, it either winds up being a pow day, or just great conditions.

Hunter tends to take me a while to get a rhythm going. (Possibly because there's nothing but Belt to get started with).

I think the only place that I have skied without falling or crashing is Mount Washington so that place seems to bring out my A game. Seriously though, I ski the same everywhere. Mood, atmosphere, people I am with, conditions, etc. heighten my application of technique on occasion.
