They had part of the trail under the waterfall wash out in the fall. They did some rehab work. It sounded like they were going to wait for a deep base before opening it this season. They specifically asked folks not to ski it until it has recovered.
Oh I can vouch for that....bootfitting visits, when living around Boston, were to GMOL @Stratton = quite a few days there. Loads of little kids up there, arriving after school, had to have come out of the womb with skis on...visit to the bootguys with plumbbobs probably came before visits to the doctor. What I like is the lack of pretentiousness, nobody taking themselves too seriously, small kids skiing down paradise in a "pizza", ski clothes with duct tape repair, a general friendliness all around, everyone is there to ski and an awful lot of really good skiers..........

Ha! I find this very funny because I think you are more likely to see folks wearing "Patagucci" at MRG than duct tape. I see more skinny skis, rear entry bindings, and duct tape at Stowe. As far as localism, I tend to think of that as the "MRV Vibe" rather than the MRG vibe. It isn't MRG's fault its located in the Mad River Valley. This I disagree with. I have always felt a very unfriendly localism vibe there. Actually very pretentious and WAY too serious. Like if you aren't ratty enough, or don't have the duct taped gear, then you aren't one of the cool kids. I've felt more welcome surfing the north shore of Oahu (supposedly the meca of localism) than skiing MRG.
