After contemplating where to head for the storm, “doubleeject “ and myself, decided to play the safe route and drive up to Mt. Snow Tuesday night since we have a place to stay there. Didn’t want to mess with traveling this morning. When we woke up at 7:00 to 4” of snow and puking heavily we were ecstatic. Hit Dots of Dover for breakfast. Got to the main Lodge about 8:30. Was informed of 60mph winds at the Summit. Only Carinthia would run today with one trail. Slight depression but we loaded up the gear and drove over to Carinthia. When we got out to the lift at 9:15 there were maybe twenty other customers there. First four runs were boot deep untracked along the tree line on skiers right. Was ripping up the pow on my new K2 Outlaws. Was pretty nice. Did 8 runs in two hours and headed in for break and gear change at 11:00ish. Sleet was now mixing in but they had to have close to a foot . New (dry) goggles gloves and hat, and pulled out the Recons. Did four laps with them. Another equipment change and broke out the Atomic R9’s. It was too easy. My Xterra was ski-in/ski-out. This was great to get to used all three skis again in one day. Did five or six more laps with the R9’s and called it a day about 3:00. Excellent first day out in very extreme conditions. Nice soft snow with bumps here and there. Not the most challanging but a good first day. Very small crowd, maybe (80) people, (60) of which were riders. Skiers were the minority here today! There was now some freezing rain coming down. The snow that fell stuck to everything. Quite an amazing base building event. A few kids were skiing Claim Jumper. EE and I didn’t venture over even though it looked like plenty of cover. Winter is on…………………..I see major expansion happening everywhere this weekend.
I’ll add some pictures when I dig out my camera……. if they came out. Didn’t take many and it was nasty…………………

A few shots I took, nothing much to see.......................

Oh man! Sweet TR! You guys went out and got it! Good going. Talk about a perfect day...lots of snow...but not lots of people. And you were able to ski on multiple skis!

A couple more

The narration was pretty funny by "double eject" so I had to add these. The conditions were as sweet as they get Glenn. Can't imagine if we could have gotten to the top. All the skiing videos are in the afternoon. The chair ride up gives you an idea of the conditions early. Sweetness along the far side against the woods, and we hit right under this lift a couple times before it got tracked out.

That's really awesome. I do find that the lift at Carinthia seems to be a bit more sheltered from the wind vs the other lifts on the main mountain. I'm not sure if that's because of the trees...or that it's not on the main face.

More b than a with the "usual" post storm wind direction (out of the Northwest) - Nitro has a good chunk of the summit and the ridge line from the summit on down to the top of Carinthia, not to mention the ridge off to the West of Sunbrook to block some of the wind, whereas the vast majority of the rest of the lifts that run upto/above the top of Nitro/Canyon don't have nearly the same degree of rock in the way to deflect the wind.

Looks great reef!!!! It looks like they openned a few more trails yesterday including natural trails like Uncles. A few more inches forecast for today/tonight should help too.
We'll be hitting the road for Mount Snow after work today , tomorrow will be our first day out.
