Trip Report:
I usually don't ski on weekends but I wanted to take a day to go to Sunapee to get some NASTAR runs in to work on my technique for Monday night. It snowed lightly throughout the day which made for some flat light, but it wasn't too bad. I spent the morning cruising in the bowl, which had better conditions and a lot less people that the front of the mountain. I guess people would rather wait in line and ski scraped off trails than ride a slow lift, oh well. Went in for lunch about 11:00 and got one of the last tables. When I was heading out there were people eating in the stairwell due to lack of space in the lodge because of the idiotic design. After lunch I went down to Eggbeater to run the NASTAR course for the rest of the day. I got 4 runs in and then on my 5th I crashed hard, ending my day. I'm not sure exactly how it happened but I was trying to shave a bit more off my time by getting closer and closer to the panels and got too close. I think my ski hit the gate head on and threw me off balance. I tried to recover but smashed straight into the next gate which hit me in the face, elbow, and knee. I then slid to the next gate, going right over it and off the course. 5 runs, 1 DNF, I can deal with that and I think I have improved my technique, getting handicaps of 19.8, 26.2 (real bad run, way off line), 20.91, and 18.32. I hope to be able to drop those on Monday night but we'll see.
