Did someone actually say that HUNTER gets alot of love? Give me a break!

When I started here all I ever heard about Hunter was Joey hill, stupid NYer's, your skis get stolen, poor terrain, rude people, most crowded hill in the world, etc. Yes, I got on people for that because it was untrue. Then, a bunch of AZer's actually went there and skied and found out the hype was bullshit. Now people don't rag on it anymore.

To summarize: incorrect assumptions are debunked, now we assume there's a halo effect.

The truth is a halo effect? I'm done with this thread.

That time of the month?

I think HPD raises a valid point, to a degree. Only thing i'll add is in regards to Magic.

Is it flawed at all? Hell yes. It has too many to list. Bottom line is that I think its an awesome mtn and i will (and have) continue to pump it because i want it to stay in business. I'm not so unrealistic as to think I can make any real impact but if one person reads a thread about the place and then decides to give it a shot, awesome. Simply put, i want the place to stay open.

Dang, I guess JimmyG woke up on the wrong side of the bed today.

Nah...something else set me off.

Everyone loves their home hill. Look at the Killington threads. There's no way any of those folks are that pissed off if they don't love the place.

You love Whiteface; I love Hunter. I defend my home hill when someone says something untrue, but my main goal is to get them to go there and ski it a day and then decide. A bunch of AZers took advantage of the offer, now there's a better image of what Hunter is like.

Lot's of people don't like Hunter. Guess what? There are folks who don't like Whiteface, MRG, Sugarbush, Jay, wherever. For alot of reasons. And that's normal and just fine by me. All I ask is that you at least go to the hill and spend a solid day out there checking it out before offering your critique.

When someone tells me Hunter is always crowded on weekends and the liftlines are an hour long, I'm going to speak up. You do too when someone says something boneheaded about Whiteface. But if someone says Hunter has too little intermediate terrain, no argument here. That's true.

I don't want folks to stop giving opinions. If you skied Hunter and didn't like it because it was too icy or too steep, I'm cool. But if you're going to tell me you get mugged by drunken NYer's everytime you go, I'm going to challenge that.

Please, no halos over Hunter.

I don't think that's true. I think there is a good mix of blues and blacks at Hunter. Then you have Hunter 1 for greens, so there's something for everybody.

The problem is there's only one intermediate run off the summit, Belt. Most skiers, especially newbies always want to "go to the top".

Well I hate being argumentative, but Hellgate is really a blue. Maybe in bad conditions a dark blue, but most intermediates don’t have any problem with it.

Okay, yeah. Navy. I'll give you that, at least skier's right. Same could be said for Minya, I guess.

At the beginning of the season I would have said black all the way. Looking back at this season and my progression I would agree with blue. But if you ride the lift up with andyzee its definitely a triple black.

Besides Belt and White Cloud, there is no intermediate terrain on the main mountain. Well, there's 42nd Street but they never blow snow on it so it's rarely open. Past mid-station there is intermediate stuff, but you have to ski blacks to get to it, so I'm not counting that. You can ride D lift to get to that stuff, but again you're going to be mixed in with experts coming down from the summit. The mid-station intermediate terrain is probably most accessible, but it will get crowded.

B-lift has intermediate terrain, but it's crowded and they've mixed in a ton of terrain park stuff there and it's just not user friendly for the true intermediate. The user friendly intermediate terrain over on Hunter One is left bare of snow every season. They just don't commit the snowmaking to getting any of that terrain open.

If there's anything about the skiing that they should improve it's the access and ease of skiing for intermediate terrain, IMO.
