First my excuse:

That's how I started my Thursday morning. I was in the white van. The results could have been much worse but no skiing for me this weekend.

Now why you should go.

In short, a 12 year old boy was hit by a car driven by 16 year old. From what I can see this is a big blow to the community around Wildcat. It seems that they're putting together a scholarship or something similar as a tribute to Brian. After the suggestion of a scholarship, I thought that if a fund was established, maybe any graduating senior from local high school that has not had a ticket or an accident should get recognition with some sort of cash "scholarship". Call it the Save it for the Slopes fund.

So encourage your friends to bring their good vibe and if there is an opportunity to be a little generous then be so. If someone can pull off a 50/50 raffle that can work. Anyhow, have fun and thanks to Wildcat for staying open this late.

ps My 14 yr old is a great ski pal. I can't imagine what the pain of losing a child is like nor can I imagine the pain that would go along with having hurt or killed someone this way. Yesterday morning, I was too close to knowing the latter but luck was on my side (minor injuries for me, others not even hurt).

Thanks, I won't discuss faults here but I'm okay. Hobbling around with a cane and using fewer pain pills than prescribed.

Well the fact that you're alright is good enough then...details I don't really need...

Basically, I could have paid better attention. I've hurt this bad from ski crashes. The drivers in the other vehicles didn't even go to get checked up. One of them is a long-time customer of mine. I called to check on him last night, and he said the only pain he felt was the emotional side of things. He was worried that I was badly hurt but I climbed out on my own.

On the other hand, the awful accident up north was truly tragic. Having my kids approaching the driving age is a nervous thing. Hopefully, some good lessons come out of all of this.

Anyhow, don't mean to be a downer here but this is a community. Hope some of you can bring some cheer to Wildcat!

I'm speechless, ckofer. I barely can manage a croaky THANK YOU!

Posting that picture of Brian really brought the tears on, he was a special kid in a lot of ways. His affect with his peers was priceless, he could lead a french fry fight but turn it off in an instant. His boarding skills and peer relationships were so awesome that he was on tap to be a junior instructor ( for his peers on a volunteer basis) in the coming year.

Not to mention that he was handsome as they come at 12 and could Please and Thank you with the best of them.

He was a young'un who had a lot to offer the world.

I'll miss him.

good to meet you breeze. skiing today was perfect spring corn, with lot's of options and nice long runs.

wildcat was really good this spring, to me they really stand out as a skiers mountain.

thank you!

also... if your considering going tomorrow, do it. buy some stuff (beer, food) and throw some vibes in the fundraiser box.

It was a great end to the season. I was quite surprised how much was open. Snow cover at the top was great for May. The bottom was a little rough, I found Cougar to be the best shape at the base.

Wildcat was a LOT of fun this weekend, even for me ( maybe because I was doing something totally different than my regular j.o.b.s ???)

Was fun meeting new faces and putting forum names to real people, and TALKING to people instead of "Processing A Line of People".

What do I know, LOLOL, MHO would be to bag the new Zip Rider and go for a mid-mountain-to- summit lift! G*D knows we have the lines!

OOPS did I say that, sorry Wildcat, please, Take it in jest.

I've talked with a lot of folks "all over 21" who remember "doing laps" off the old Lynx Lift, which ran from Catwalk to the summit, from about the top of Alley Cat, thats why the parallel line for the HSQ to the Old Gondi Line.

It was a great weekend weather wise, a fabulous turnout, really exceeding our expectations. Totally worth doing, totally worth being there, totally worth participating.

Thanks to one and all for their company, their smiles, their handshakes and disclosures, their investment in "one last weekend'.

There was NO WHINING that I heard, even this morning when the HSQ choked on some rime ice and was delayed an hour.

Just in case you are wondering or didn't hear it from the base of the quad, there was some mixed precip and then a period of rime icing in the oh dark hundred hours up top. Short ( OMG SHORT! ) staffing put all available personnel ( Rick and Erin) in the groomers after midnight and there was no one available to spin the cable overnight.

This morning, on start-up, there was a big hiccup when incoming lifties powered the line to start loading chairs and some brake sensors just said <doh>. All patience was appreciated, and I hope, rewarded.

Rick F and Erin deserve HUGE kudos for making the limited grooming happen this weekend. Rick F has been grooming at WC for over 20 years. How do the fingers point? Erin ( nominal supervisor) said early this morning.... " I don't know where that *#&%*&D" stashed it or found it, but he found enough from somewhere to cover 20 yards of fast grass and save Polecat!"

Huge Kudos to groomers and mechanics. Seldom seen and almost never heard , they are the ones clocking in the dark hours to make the daylight ski-worthy.

Thanks, too, for guests parting with some small change to honor our lost.

I had a great weekend working, totallly wrapped it up for me in positives out of a difficult season, and is sending me off to the next season with a light step and a good feeling.

ROCK ON!

Breeze-
Thanks for everything! It was my first time up at wildcat and I loved it! My only complaint was the long lift lines of 0 people :p It was well worth the drive up! You all started the lift just in time, I had my skis strapped to my pack and was maybe 10 yards up hill starting to earn my run when I heard the HSQ crank away.

Thanks again for a great year! Only in NE can I going cycling on saturday and skiing on sunday!
