Great first ride. Met WoodCore at Scoville right about 5:30. He had already been out on a warm-up ride. After fumbling around trying to get ready, we were eventually off. Jon thought it would be a great idea to take me up Hinman and the Johnnycake climb for my first ride of the season! :-o I was hating mountian biking for a little while there. We peeled off to the orchard downhill and then over to the sandy pelican. Rode though the logged area which is a little ugly, but rideable. Got on the truck trail going south. I fumbled on the first and third scrambles (3rd is red's rock). Cleared the second one though. Still, it slowed me enough that WoodCore was gone. After the short downhill, I wasn't sure where he went so I just picked the short routes over to B Street. On my way north on B Street, I remembered Jon mentioned maybe crossing 69 at Reservoir Road and coming out via the cemetery. I decided to go back to Scoville via the boy scout bridge and then into the cemetery maybe running into WC. The only life I saw was a guy walking his dog. At the end of the cemetery ST, I just came out via the DT. Saw o3jeff in the lot (nice bike!!!!). WC eventually emerged from the BSB trail and informed me of his search and rescue efforts. Sorry we got split up Jon. Next time I'll try to keep up.

Not sure how far I rode, probably 7-ish miles. Felt great at the end of the ride. Nass is riding nicely now. Got to bed early and slept well, and not at all sore today. I was well hydrated yesterday so I think that helped. Anyway, glad to get the 2010 MTB season started.

Way to get lost on your first day out! :p

Sounds like a good first ride. How was the Johnnycake climb and the Orchard riding? I heard it got a little ripped up when it was still soft..

it did get ripped up a bit in spots but has dried up nicely. Nothing TLC in the form of TM can't fix. Amazing how compacted the trail tread is as compared to last year. More on this ride later when I'm not typing on my phone....

Not to say you will be, but I wasn't sore at all the morning after my first ride either. It took until the afternoon to start to stiffen up a bit. Of course I was sitting in an office chair almost the entire time... Since your ski season ended so much more closely to your bike season start than mine maybe you'll have better luck than I. :p
