I should clarify the lighting comment, I mean night lighting vs. a sunny day. I like to be able to see the texture of the snow.

Regardless of an afternoon groom or not, night skiing conditions can often be tricky just due to the cooling cycle/nature of the snow setting up.

The just wondering thread had me thinking.. Alot of us live near smaller hills that offer skiing under the lights. Night skiing has it's advantages as oppposed to day time. For instance you have the Mt all to yourself, and it allows you to get out after work where as you would not otherwise. The downfall is the snow is not as good can be icy, temps can be be much colder (if thats a problem to begin with). How do you feel about night skiing, Do you prefer it to skiing between 8am to 4pm?

LOVE the night ski. 'Spec during the week at Crotched, when they have all of their guns blazing. Crunchy sometimes midseason, but early season, FRESH POWDA, ungroomed!

I haven't been night skiing since the last time I skied Denton in PA several years ago. But I enjoy it. It's a completely different experience. I'd rather ski during the day, but night skiing is definitely fun.

Denton Hill---now there's a blast from the past--skied that place when I was in college----don't remeber much about the place, but I do remeber they had one headwall (very short) that was pretty darn steep for such a small hill.

I love to ski during the day but that usually only happens on weekends. I am usually out at least 3 nights out of the week!

I’ve been night skiing since the beginning. Going back to the pre-kid days of the 70’s. Starting with West mountain, a couple of times at Brodie, but mostly at Jiminy. It’s great to leave the office and be skiing within an hour. It’s one of the ways I keep the ever weakening grip I have on sanity. You can freeze your goodies off, but (in my case) it’s a small price to pay. After about 8:00 I’d have the mountain to myself, I can get 9 runs in an hour with out even trying. Of course the lifties can get a little ticked at you because they have to leave their semi warm spot in the lift shack to load you, but that’s why they get the big bucks.

I usually ski at least 3 nights a week, sometimes more at Shawnee Peak. It is just 10 mins from work so I hit it on my way home. Some nights for just a few runs, sometimes I stay till closing. It depends on the conditions and the crowds. I never go on Monday nights anymore cause they have monday night madness- 10 dollar tickets. You wouldn't believe some of the people that come out of the woodwork on mondays. It just is not safe to be on the slopes!

I'm not particularly a fan, but I do it none the less. I imagine I'll get out 4 or 5 Monday's this season at Shawnee when it's only $10

We ski Gunstock at night fairly often. It's much better than during the day- even less-than-exciting trails are fun if they're empty.

yeah...one thing I forgot is that a night pass is normallly a lot chepaer than day ticket. I know here in PA, Blue Mt. has a Sunday night pass for only $19. The Monday night madness at Shawnee Peak seems like a great value for $10

Thu night beer league at Shawnee Peak...most nights I'll do a warm up before my two race runs, then a run or two after unless its below 0, then maybe just the two race runs. Two years ago my best east coast "powder" turns were at night at Shawnee...last race of the season, 6-9inches of fresh and no one on the slopes, kept going until they wouldn't let us on the lift anymore...missed the banquet, prizes, even the free t-shirt...wouldn't do it any differently.

Woo Hoo...not bad for 25 minutes from my apartment and my job...people I know ask me all the time why I even bother with Blue since it sucks compared to places I ski out west and up north...yikes..if I wasn't skiing Blue every weekend morning when I'm not on a ski trip and every day after work...I'd be hanging out in a bar with alot of drunks...I can do that the 8 months of the year Booter mountain is closed...plus they were open into April..just barely last season with 100 percent of the terrain..that's my boy Blue.....eee heeee

Edit: That picture is at least 5 years old because there's no Razors edge..
