As you may know, I'm starting a new job on 8/27. I have not given notice in work just yet. I'm waiting for a confirmation letter before I give notice. Originally I was thinking of only giving one week's notice and taking a week's vacation before starting the new job. Now I'm having second thoughts and am starting to think I may be better off giving them two week notice. Even if I give them two week's notice, I figure I could take the last two days of that two weeks off. What's your opinion?

2 weeks. It seems like the standard. As mentioned in the other thread, never burn bridges. I've seen numerous people return to the company I work out. You never know....

You get fully paid for your unused time off? Got some left? "At will" employee/er relationship?

Give two weeks and hope they show you the door and then you get two weeks paid vacation. DMC was right. Don't burn bridges... you never know. Go out with class.

I say no notice at all, just walk into the boss's office and drop a steamy one on their desk. That should be notice enough...

Of course I'm kidding, give the two weeks notice.

Although if you do take my advice please be sure to let us know! :D

Two weeks. Always. If not more, depending on position/situation.
Of course, here at my job, 1 month is expected, but it usually goes something like this:

"I'm submitting my resignation, effective in 30 days."

"We're sorry to see you go, and we're glad you've offered to complete pending projects. Security will be by your office within 15 minutes to collect your building pass and escort you out."

Yeah, that what I have a problem with. I've seen too many people walked out within minutes, when they quit or the company decides to let them go, yet, your expected to give a minimum of 2 weeks. :-?

Indeed...be the class act and give 2 weeks notice.

I admire you fulfilling the "take this job and shove it" fantasy that I'm sure most of the working schmucks like me here have. I'd love to say "I quit, you take over" and show them my bare ass as it skips out the front door, but that's bacause of all the work related crap we all deal with. That's not about me or you.

The right thing is to give 2 weeks and work until the end or they throw you out.

So, instead of them being the classless assholes, you think it better to trump them and up the classless ante?

It seems like a good idea now, but don't compromise your personal integrity.

Unless you have none, in which case carry on.

Jim, as far as integretiy, I don't even know how to spell it. But, guess you're right, I'll go with the 2 week option. Oh, that means no video.

It's a good act Andy, but it doesn't wash here.

You're a good guy, so just be a good guy.
