Date(s) Skied: March 7, 2009
Resort or Ski Area:Pico
Conditions: A little frozen in the A.M., nice and soft the rest of the day
Trip Report: Good day at Pico. Started off not so good..waited to load the lift from 7:50 - 8:30, for grooming purposes. First hour was all lower mountian, summit chair didn't open until 9:45 or so. Sun came out around 11 and stayed out until 2, best hours of the day. I was really lucky with trail openings....I just happened to be near all the trails as patrol was dropping the ropes...third down Upper KA (sweet), first tracks down Summit Glades @12:30 (really sweet, perfectly warmed up), etc. Bumps on Summit Glades were SWEET! Props to the tele skier with the white beard/red jacket. Sickest tele skier I've ever seen, style for miles, crazy inspiring/humbling. Glad I caught up with him to tell him so last run. Great feeling to ride in a shell, sunglasses and sunblock on the face! Funny that so many people were disappointed with the spring conditions: it's heavy, its sticky, etc. It seems the average skier doesn't like the two best ski surfaces: powder and corn, lol. Took a couple pics:
Birch Glades(?):
Summit Glades (pic does not do those bumps justice):
Riding up the Summit Chair:
Upper Pike hurting from the lack of snowmaking love (Thanks POWDR!):
Seriously, blow some snow on skier's right next year! Best lines are there and that trail is one of the best off the top! Should have snow on it the first week of March!
