2006-2007 Report # : 30
Conditions: PP/P
[bWeather:[/b] Mostly sunny, some snow showers, and cold temps.
Trip Report: We went up for some B-day turns for Ms. TB. The worst thing we planned was to ski for a couple cold hours. I did not think I would have to be dragged off the slopes, but that's what happened.
We got on the lift at about 9:15 or so and did the complete Expressway. They did a good job getting the rest of it opened and it skied nicely. This, along with Panhandler, have the most pitch on the Golden Express.
From here, we went to the summit. First run was down 49er...in GREAT shape  with little or no ice.
Sunset '71 was mint...run of the day along with Birch Glades. They rolled out the snow on Sunset and it skied nice all day long. I did take a fall after missing a sudden lip on Upper Sunset.
We took Lower Sunset, which was quite skied out. Good cover though.
Upper KA was slick...skied off. Mid KA was great all day as well.
We did several runs on Birch Glades....GREAT shape! I loved the bumps and soft snow. Great cover....you could take the nice skis on it and not worry
Mid Pike was also in great shape, but Upper Pike was still closed, despite the good cover. Seriously, like 200 yards of snowmaking opens that run...... There is enough cover otherwise.
Before lunch, I took a spin down the Upper Summit Glade. The section between the interconnect and Easy Street was open...and the lower part was as well, but I did not go down it. The bumps were good and cover was OK. Obstacles were easily avoided.
After lunch, Ms. TB tried Summit Glade and Birch Glades with me. The former she did not like, but she did get into the flow with the latter. We did two runs down Stampede, which had some nice pow, to Expressway. At this point, she went in because of the cold and I struck off.
I did one more spin down Stampede and then did a run down Gold Rush the entire way. The lower part had some soft snow.
From here I tried out B-Slope, which the Pico Ski Club had just left. Nasty. The upper part was wind scoured white ice and lower part was firm. :x
All in all, a great day. Best day of the season. Nice to get on Summit and Birch Glades! Now time for Upper Pike, Outpost, and Giant Killer!!!! Just some more please.
