Area Skied: Plattekill New York
Surface Conditions: Powder, Cut Up Powder and some Packed Powder
My original plan was to ski at Mountain Creek, but after looking at the Catskill ski conditions, my son and I decided to head up to Plattekill. Since the ski area had recieved 4" of snow earlier in the week and 10" yesterday, today was designated as a "Powder Daize", which meant 90% ungroomed conditions throught the ski area.
We got a late start from home at 7:45 and did not arrive until 11:30am, so most of the snow was already tracked out when we started skiing around noon. My son does not really like powder snow as of yet and he gets scared when he cannot see his ski's which was the case with our first run down Overlook, which is a green trail from the top of the Northface Lift. The trail had an easy 10-12" of untouched snow in spots along the edges of the trail.
We played around in the powder/packed powder on the Bumps trail as well as Bail Out, Sundown and Ridge Run. I let my son ski alone on Powder Puff while I sampled the steeper stuff by skiing Blockbuster, Freefall and The Face.
The weather was fair with sun and clouds with a tropical 12F at noon and a scorching 14F when we stopped skiing at 3:30pm. The wind was really gusty at times with blowing and drifting snow on the trails. The place was nearly deserted with maybe 100-150 people on the mountain all day.

Warren skiing Sundown:
Blockbuster and Freefall have NO snowmaking base with bare ground underneath. I guess they were very judicial with snowmaking this year as the steeper trails usually have a manmade base. The skiing surface should endure if they choose to pack down some of the snow by grooming it.
