Interesting report. Average speed is above 25MPH on blue intermediate trails measured by radar on multiple mountains across United States a few years back. With improved equipment the average speed is probably higher today. Note I said average speed.

What do you think an advanced skiier can get up to? I'm thinking 30

WC downhillers can run as fast as 80mph, so if you open it up on a steep groomer I bet you can easily hit 40 - 50+.

I talked to a college racer and she said she was radar clocked at 45, but I forgot to ask if it was GS or free skiing.

Years ago, we timed ourselves top to bottom of a flat run (visual timing by a stationary skier) and we found we had an average speed of 40. I suspect the fastest I ever get today is 25.

Also, some people can go 45 mph and look like they're standing still, but others are a danger to everyone at 7 mph.

Agreed, a beginner doing 10, is a lot more dangerous than an experienced skier doing 40 or whatever number you can get up to.

Also, doing 15mph on a crowded trail Presidents Weekend is much more dangerous than someone doing a speed run on an empty midweek day. (Assuming the person doing the speed run is of sufficient skill to control themselves at the speed they are going).
