I hope the upcoming "weather" next week is kind to them. Pretty sick of it already.
Starting to be last year alll over again for Southern New Enlgand..... Every week, 2 days of "bad" followed by a day or 2 of "good" and a day or 2 of "marginal".... The only upside is this year it seems like the "bad" is occurring at the end of the weekend rather than just prior to the weekend like it did many times over last season

Amen. At least the resorts have time to regroup and recover prior to their busy days as of now. But this overall December pattern needs to go for all of NE.

Not sure what's going on but they've got the Pines lit up, I am assuming Lower Ridge down to get there too, but just web cam porning it today, not skiing. They might just be using capacity while they are still working Ragged proper. They'll need to shut that all down and move back to Spear and finish Upper Cardigan at some point coming up soon. Lower Cardigan should be done for the holiday week at least off Barnyard, probably the big carpet too.

Or maybe they have bagged Spear altogether for the holiday and are going all in on another route down off Ragged Peak.

Snow report shows lower ridge but not pines. Have not been to ragged since Sunday but saw a picture of blueberry from Tuesday, not quite starting over but close. Blueberry did not seem as deep as normal before the deluge.

These guys have a stupid amount of guns going. Lower Ridge down through Pines, top of Wild Side, Main Street, Blueberry Patch, Newfound, base area, big carpet, and L. Cardigan. Gonna be a busy night for the night crew, that's a lot of widely dispersed areas.

Big push before lights off for a week basically.

Just getting around to catching up on many threads. Newpy, is this ability all due to just making efficiency gains or have they sneaked in a big power boost under the radar?

No massive changes, just efficiency as far as I know. They're still another pump or more out to being able to hit both peaks simultaneously fill tilt.

This policy of making enough snow to last until April and not have to resurface is getting obnoxious. They just restarting snowmaking yet again on Cardigan, and if you've seen the pictures... to say there is plenty there is an understatement.

It does make for some dangerously high banks on some of the sides. I fell off one side on Showboat a couple seasons ago and I honestly feared the worst as I plummeted toward snowmaking pipes and hydrants. Happily some tree branches were folded over the pipes by caked on snow and I hit those and they cushioned the fall.

there is demand for an early season youth SL race at ragged. Pats booked 250 racers last weekend with another 100 on the waitlist. Food court and bar were slammed, not to mention parent/sibling tickets and tubing. Problem is it would need to be first sunday in Jan on Yankee. Would surely be a good revenue day for the mountain but cannot count on yankee being open in early january with the current policy of turning cardigan into Antarctica.

I thinks it a matter of “which skier do we focus on first?” Most years allow for snowmaking on Cardigan to finish well before Xmas break. That’s the way they planned it I’m guessing and rather than change course when the weather didn’t cooperate they stuck to their “guns” so to speak. Does that sound feasible?

Dev starts Saturday, another 77 familes on the mountain looking for green terrain.

Ski east high school race on main street sunday. Think there are around 200 kids registered just waiting to jam the six pack line.

Picture of cardigan posted by the mountain attached. Zoom in, that is a man dwarfed by the whales. Time to push it out, get it open this weekend and start on yankee.

This video was taken at the top of Flying Yankee shows grooming the top of Cardigan Turnpike. So some years, at least, they do open Yankee first.

Yep I remember them doing Yankee first many years. I do think Cardigan is a better choice as it sucks up skiers of more ability levels.

Guess it’s a tough choice in a low snow year and a warm rainy one at that. Let’s hope the next couple storms change all that.

Dont look at the forecast for next week.
Yup. Storm moving in Tuesday 1/9 through Wednesday 1/10. Southern areas and low altitude get mix of snow and rain. Higher elevations and northern areas all snow. That's the forecast this morning. We'll know more 48 hours out

Are we now complaining about to much snowmaking?

This board is incredibly inconsistent. Vail doesn't make enough snow, Ragged apparently to much.

Make up your minds people.

I’ve no idea why you come to this forum. Most of your posts are to criticize other posts.
