Any focus on bumps, whether they be seeded or natural, is good in my book. I don't ski K enough to know if they need seeded bumps, but I don't think it can hurt. :spread:

... however, lower vertigo has had the consistently best bumps on the mtn the past two seasons on (for the most part) natural snow. so this is sort of addition by subtraction imho. how about adding a seeded bump line on another trail.

I agree. When I did a mogul camp there years back, we spent a great deal of time on lower Vertigo. And whenever we hit Killington, my husbands heads straight to Vertigo because he knows he'll find good moguls there.

But, at least moguls are becoming more of the focus. That's got to be a good thing.

This was my initial thought as well; good that they're seeding bumps, but probably the worst trail to pick for it due to how good the bumps are anyways. Lower Vertigo was awesome every time I skied it last year.

I'm not skiing Killington unless I KNOW the bumps are good. I'll need a picture, taken on the day before I arrive, to convince me it's worthwhile.

In my dreams, I recall this image (see below) ... Dear Killington, please re-create the dream !

I guess thats cool and all.... although I'm in agreement with what I think is some of the opinion on here... the bumps on lower vertigo are usually pretty good anyway... so I'm not sure how much of an improvement this is?

If I were more of a bump skier it might make a bigger difference for me? I enjoy the moguls etc, I think ungroomed trails are great on a good day, i definatley spend more time on stuff that has been left ungroomed... will this be that much better?

great news! any chance that we get a few lines on a steeper run (OL, lower ovation, ect...)?
vertigo is pretty flat and the bumps dont get as spread out as they do on the steep runs.

also, if its going to be called a terrain park, will you be able to put airs on it?

I'm with Frank on this one. There needs to be more attention to moguls on steeper terrain. It's easy to create nice tight bumps on the flat trails. We can all do that naturally. It's much tougher to keep them tight on the steep stuff. That is where the focus and seeding should go. Frank also makes another great point in that if the seeded field is labeled a "terrain park" there should be some kickers in there. I never get to practice kickers in a good mogul field. If I happen to get lucky and get on a trail that just finished a mogul comp, they are already breaking the kickers down.

Excuse me......but.....

.....this is absurd.

Lower Vertigo already has some of the best natural bumps on the mountain, because, duh, they haven't made snow on it in the last few years, and they rarely groom it. Right next door is needles eye lift line, which has EVEN BETTER bumps, because they NEVER GROOM IT.

So, what I want to know, is WILL THEY MAKE SNOW ON UPPER AND LOWER VERTIGO THIS YEAR? Then will they seed bumps? Somehow, I doubt it, if they don't think Vertigo will open until mid January....UPPER VERTIGO WAS OPEN LIKE.....ONCE LAST YEAR?

This reeks of BS. They are basicly taking a natual bump run and marking it. I doubt they will actually be out there with a snowcat forming bumps.

AND WHAT ABOUT MAKING SNOW ON DEVILS FIDDLE? SO WE CAN SKI BUMPS OVER THERE WITHOUT HITTING 20 ROCKS ON EVERY RUN.....??? WE WANT MORE THAN JUST LIP SERVICE.

OH YEAH.........IT'S CHEAPER TO GROOM LESS.....!

we did ski upper vert a number of days last season but yeah it was closed way more than it was open. i'm assuming this announcement means they're planning to blow snow, seed & maintain bumps on lower vert. hopefully that means from the crossover down. i'm hoping they intend to remove the stupid fence that closes the crossover. if the fence stays up, then they have to blow snow and maintain vertigo top-to-bottom or at least from the sunoco rd cutover (mid vertigo).

but like i said, seeding bumps on vertigo and "putting it on the map" doesn't really buy much since it's been the best bump run on the hill the last few seasons. i woulda gone with needles eye from the crossover down as they used to many yrs ago but apparently there's mid week race training on needles. another trail that's wide enough to support seeded bump lines and half grooming would be cruise control. these could be excellent training bumps since cruise isn't very steep but probably not enough pitch for real bumpers. also it's a high traffic trail. other options could be upper dreammaker which might too be steep for some or upper wildfire which imo could be perfect. and YES BLOW THE FIDDLE!

Interesting feedback about Vertigo not needing seeding. Again, if anything, at least they are acknowledging the request for more bumps. It'll be interesting to see how it goes, and I'm sure many AZers will be reporting back. Hopefully, they lighten up on the grooming next spring too. Lots of bumps into the middle of May would be sweet.

i'll echo the sentiment that vertigo is already one of the best bump runs, in terms of the quality of the lines, that killington has. Seems a bit odd to choose that trail. I also agree with frank and j about setting up something steeper.

But, all in all, its still on the plus side in my opinion.

this is a perfect example of the new management starting to learn but doing it the wrong way. I can think of a dozen better runs worth seeding on the mountain. The side of Needle's Eye would be perfect. Double Dipper would be perfect. etc and so on.

Tom - given the feedback that Vertigo has some of the best natural bumps on the mountain already, have you guys considered somewhere else to seed?

I still vote for skier's left on Double Dipper. Good visibility from the base, entertainment for the spectators on the quad, nice pitch, snow making, and plenty wide enough to half groom. Seeded bumps would give add a lot of character back to a trail that many people call an atrocity.

East Fall should get pounded with snow making in the winter and left virtually ungroomed all spring and allow natural bumps to form. Or perhaps seed once and let it go. Could be a great late season/spring bumper.

Never groom Escapade, Vertigo, nor Northstar under any circumstances. Let Superstar and OL bump up fully in the spring. Maybe have one intermediate bump run - Skyelark perhaps? I think this would satisfy all the bumpers.
