Blowing my ACL at the beginning of March.

I get the feeling you're going to get some support on that one...

For me, it was the the trips before and after I got my new boots. Trip before, I just got completely disgusted with my old boots. Flexy, no feel for if it was just contact or actually shin pressure, too upright for good bump posture, etc., and on top of that I ended the day with an ingrown toenail. Great day skiing, but just finally had it with the boots. Next time out, I think I lasted maybe three hours (at Killington, a 3 hour drive both ways,) before I just couldn't bear it anymore; arches were dead, couldn't walk right for a week. Great conditions that day too, but I was just in constant pain.

I've had a couple more end due to pain, but not nearly so disappointing.

Lowest point: following a guy I met on the chair into the woods at Loon and tagging a tree with my knee because the space through the woods was too narrow and icy and I was just getting used to my new skis. It was a pretty violent crash and I thought I broke something. Double ejected and ate snow. While on the ground, I wiggled my toes and fingers then got up to see if everything was in place.

After the crash, my confidence was in the back seat and my knee was hurting so much. I skied very slowly and conservatively through the trees to get out. To make matters worse, the jack--s I followed was questioning my skiing ability the whole time.

January 20th when I crashed at high speed and sprained both knees. I was on crutches for a week, thought my season was done. But I started to walk on them and in a couple of days I could walk without too much pain. The following week I tried skiing. It about killed me but I kept at it and the pain became bearable. After a while I could ski fine so I was back on track again. My left knee still bothers some but I can deal with that. Other than that I have had an awesome season!

I am glad to report no major lowpoints this season. Sure, there were a couple of days where the conditions were less than ideal, but it sure beat the heck out of what I would have otherwise been doing!

I got sick towards the end of January which wiped out a week+ into early Feb. Then had probably the best day of the season at MRG on 2/8. Mid-Feb was rough - bruised my hip up badly. Took 6+ weeks for the soreness to fully go away. That coupled with the lighting issues at Sundown made for a crappy mid-month. It did a total 180 with a powder day and some new bumps on Temptor. Finished the month strong with a rad powder day at Magic. February was a bit of roller-coaster ride with more highs than lows though.

Tearing my ACL in mid-Feb... and it taking nearly a month just to get the diagnosis. Just got the MRI bill in the mail today. At least our share is only $312.

I spoke too soon.
Reservation for a room in Killington tonight, get up there about 10:00, gear up, sunscreen on, in anticipation of another awesome day; like Thursday, but steeper and by myself. And then two runs and done, from way too much pain in the feet. My boots are so close to perfect that I'm afraid to have volume added to the heel, because I think it's just from the runs that I'm warming up and don't have the buckles down all the way that I have an issue, and then once it starts it doesn't matter what I do. So, I missed out on probably two of the best days of the year, and ended the season early. I am really, really ticked off right now.

Hopefully I can start out the year next year by figuring out my foot cramping problem (I think I'm almost there,) and avoid the heel problems altogether.

Do I hear ya on that one!!! Ugh.... foot cramping is the pits. And at this time of year, it's only worse because of your feet swelling due to warmer temps anyway.

The low point of my season is that it's probably done.

51 days total.

I'm feeling pretty good about that. Good fitness all season. No injuries or new aches.

Did a little fishing out my back door yesterday. Gorgeous evening.

Skiing at Whiteface on November 23rd. The snow was awful and consisted of mainly crushed ice and sheet ice. We made up for it with great skiing at Whiteface on December 1st.

Being far away from my wife at Sunday River on December 2nd and hearing that my wife's brother was dying and she was making an emergency trip to Atlanta to see him before he died. Sadly he passed away while she was en route.

Riding the Kennebago T-bar for the last time on April 18th.

I was very lucky this year. No injuries...just too busy at work to get out as much as I'd hoped.

The "low" point was emotional...realizing I was done for the season. I was releived when Wa closed. It was like a Siren...taunting me by being open. Once they closed...it was alot easier to let the season go.

Not going at all the past two years because I cannot afford to go any longer.

:(

That sucks

There are creative ways to make the sport less expensive, you just have to keep your eyes open. I'm avereging about $26 per ticket right now for this season. Next year that number will go down even further with the $99 season pass I purchased at Tenney and the fact I've joined a ski club.

I missed the 1st 3 weekends in March and the Wildcat 100k challenge(and over a week of work) due to an inner ear infection that threw off my balance. I guess that would be the low point of my season. Luckily I was able to get back and finish out the season.

My low for the year lasted about 2 hours.

Last Sunday morning at 7:30, I was sitting in a director's chair in the Killington parking lot drinking a carafe of coffee trying to shed the mild hangover from all the wine at a dinner party the night before that ran until 11:00. I was thinking about what a great ski year it had been and I was pretty depressed that it was the last ski day at Killington for the year. I hung out in the parking lot until 9:30 chatting with friends while trying to suck it up. Once I got on skis, everything was great and I had a superb spring skiing day. I'm still skiing into May. I just have to go to other mountains. I'm sure I'll have another letdown in a few weeks after my last run of the year but that's then, not now. Summer is a major inconvenience.
