Butwhy wouldn't you just wear a helmet..your brain is your most imprtant muscle..Skiing and riding is usually safe and injury free but you can always get crashed into by an out of control Joey with an Eagles/Giants/ Patriots Jacket and frozen Jeans..yelling..look out from above.,.or move out of my way...I hate rules and laws and what-not but I've worn a helmet skiing my past 200+ days...including earning turns where there aren't out of control nubz..Guys who don't wear a helmet..just wear one..set a good example for others..and you'll also look like a hero to your kids, spouses, Significant others, family, and friends.. Non-skiers and riders get piece of mind knowing that you're doing whatever possible to be safe,,,,So wear a helmet this season...or else..risk a head injury which will leave you in a wheelchair eating jello....I'm out

You asked me why I don't wear a helmet. I really don't have a great answer other than I just don't, never have, and most likely never will. I will say this, and that is, I grew up in a time when we didn't have all these laws. No seatbelt laws, no child seat laws, no cell phone laws, so on, and so on. In fact I can remeber taking family trips standing up in the front seat between my parents just watching the road go by. Please don't get me wrong I think the majority of these laws are good, and save lives..........But I aint wearin' a helmet. Just not me---nope---nada---that's my choice, and I'm cool with that. Also cool with the fact that you wear one. I most liely would if I were your age too.
Anyway, you also suggested that I may wear a helmet to set a good example and "look like a hero". Sorry, I personally feel it takes ALOT more than wearing a helmet to accomplish such tall order. Nuff said about that. As for non-skiers and riders having peice of mind knowing i'm doing whatever possible to be safe...hmmmmm... if they don't ski/ride how the hell will they know??????

p.s. I like jello!

Damn right, and I stand by it!

Just surprised is all. You seem alot more open minded than that. I don't wear a helmet, alot of my friends dont' wear helemts (some do) so we're stupid????? Really??? That just seems very narrow minded to me, but I'm that way. Just sayin'

I don't wear a helmet. The degradation in my enjoyment of skiing would not be compensated for by the marginal increase in my safety.

I know, helmets aren't bad, and they're warm on cold days, and yada yada yada. I don't enjoy them.

Using the analogy between seatbelts and helmets.....
I assume that both serve to reduce injuries.
I then assume that fewer and less severe injuries result in fewer and less costly insurance claims.
Lastly I assume fewer and less costly insurance claims lead to lower insurance premiums.

I just can't bring myself to the last assumption that this would bring about lower lift ticket costs.

I wear a helmet and my younger kids wear helmets.

Sure and people die while wearing a seatbelt and a condom..But I feel like seatbelts and condoms are good things...ya heard..

Both at the same time aren't necesarily a good idea, but to each their own.

Actually, maybe I should ski with a condom. My wife says I do more thinking with that head.

I didn't mean to offend anyone.... or you in particular. It just seems like a no-brainer to me to wear a helmet. (no pun intended!). They're more comfortable too, no itchy head syndrome from hats. But again if you re-read my post, I did say "NO" to a helmet law.

And a PFD if you own a waterbed, like me.

Note to self: "Self: Get PFD for extra safe sex"

Good point (I choose my words carefully). You never know when you might miss durring the "ariel mount" and the "ol' boy" puntures the matress.

It's cool----no offense taken here. We can just agree to disagree, right??? It's kinda like this---IMO----I wear boxers, so people who wear tighty whiteys don't have a brain??? Nah, just makes them different than me is all,and that's why there are forums like this that exsist.

Thanks. That did push the limits of bad taste. I should have used Sadam instead. Less offensive, but still with full comedic value. (Even Larry the Cable Guy would be saying:" Ah donn car who ya arr, that's funny raht there, ahh tell yuh!")

Oh, just to contribute something that actually is on topic. No. No helmet law. Yes, I wear one. Yes, I think its a good idea for people to wear them. No. I don't think that ski area operators should be put in the position of having to play helmet cop. See Perennial threads look back at every other helmet thread for the last 3 or 4 years here and elsewhere. That's my opinion and I'm sticking by it.

No, I wear one and would not ski without one, but if you don't want to then all the power to you.

I wear a helmet all the time when skiing for safety and warmth. But I don't think there should be a law forcing anyone to wear one. It should be a personal choice.

You can never take chances... you know all it takes is a couple of inches....

.... of water to drown.
