Who has been able to introduce their S.O. to skiing and had them actually enjoy it and continue in the sport?

My wife was a skiing newbie when I met her who had been a few times, and liked it more for social reasons (ski trips with friends) than for the on-hill enjoyment factor.

Nowadays, she's a 40+day/season addict, who has surpassed me in the quantity of ski gear she owns

Mine skis, but is a real fair weather and is a intimidated by steep stuff. In other words, I go alone or with my brother alot.

Mine does not and it's doubtful she ever will. She tried a couple of times in high school and in college, but didn't enjoy herself. She's not much of a 'thrill seeker' so to speak, though she does like water skiing and knee boarding.

I don't really have high hopes for her trying the sport again. Maybe someday if we have children together she might cave when the little ones beg her to go, but I've exhausted my attempts in trying to get her on the snow.

My girl was a normal skier when we met. Went in high school with the school a trip or two a year.

Now she enjoys skiing and is one of the best rippers on the hill. She can go anywhere she wants.

Not even XC skiing?

That or snowshoeing are maybes, but I don't have a desire to do either. I would do it to spend time with her, but I'm not forcing the idea on her as it might carve into my downhill ski time . The real hang up is that she really can't stand the cold and if she wasn't so close to her family who pretty much all live in NH, she'd be begging me to move south to a warmer climate. For this reason, I will always love her family

My wife actually has been skiing longer than I have. She started around 7 or 8, but is not as fanatical about it as me. She'll ski 5 or 6 times a season maybe. I'm hoping that increases as the kids get into it, but if not, that's okay too. We don't have to do everything together.

my wife started skiing semi-regularly the last few years we didnt have children. She liked it enough that we did some long weekend trips to both sugarbush and up to NH to ski loon and waterville. I thought i was in. she even started going to Mt. Snow and Sundown without me, skiing with some work friends. Things looked so promising. then the children came and she hasnt even remotely shown an interest to go back out. I dont understand that one at all.

maybe this winter.

Una_dogger vowed she never would alpine ski, but with decades of x-c skiing and ice skating experience, I knew it would come easily to her and after dragging her out maybe two or three times, she was leading the charge every weekend as to where we'd go next. Out of all my days skiing last year, only one in the northeast and the five days in Utah did not have her skiing as well. She went from beginner area to groomed blacks in just the one season, bought her own skis and boots, and can't wait for next year.

To some extent, my wife was the same way; although she never really skied a lot. I think when kids are small, sometimes moms feel like taking a day to go skiing is somehow cheating the kids or something. So unless they are really into it, it's more of an effort than it's worth. My guess is that in both our cases, the moms will go out more once the kids are skiing regularly.

She's kinda interested, but hasn't since we had kids. As they get older and we all head up skiing she may come along, but I think she'd just be content to sit in the lodge and knit.

My wife had a series of health issues that pretty much kept her off skis. Several foot surgeries makes wearing skiboots very uncomfortable, so I ski wit da boyz. I'm OK with that, like someone said, we don't have to do everything together.

I’m sensing a theme here. Single women and new wives ski, but when the kids start show up skiing becomes a low priority. However kids are the motivators for moms to get back into skiing. Whatever the reason as long as they come back and enjoy themselves, because as the saying goes “if mama’s not happy, nobodies happy.

I have always been the every weekend skihouse guy since I was 18.I married at 24 and the wife did not ski and she figured if she was going to spend time with me in winter then she better learn to ski.She did and fell in love with it.She then fell out of love with me after 20 years and we divorced. She still skis and ended up moving fulltime near my home mt.I still see her every weekend in winter and the awkwardness is now long gone.I've now had the same results with my girlfriend of 4 years as far as turning her on to skiing every weekend.Hopefully it won't have the same end result!Oh well,I'm doing my part.
