My wife introduced me to skiing and got me seriously hooked. We ski together every weekend.

My wife started @ 22 yrs old when we served in the Army in Germany from 79-82.
She was a real good sport, learning in Garmisch, Germany and even skiied the Zugspitz her first year on Rec Center rental skiis.
That said, she is a self avowed perpetual novice and loves easy cruisers. I love that she is happy on easy trails. As a family we always look for areas that give a us a good variety but I must admit plenty of challenge is required. A mostly int/beg hill won't do.
Our 22 yr old daughter started before her 4th birthday and surpased my wife by her 6th. She will ski anything I will since her 10th. I ski with her and my wife loves the solitude of skiing alone. We usually meet up during the day to ski together and have lunch and go our separate ways.
I think the biggest change for her is the new equipement. Shaped skiis and the new bindings and boots allow lots of people to enjoy skiing over 40. Turning is so much easier than is was 20 years ago. Also the new equipement is much easier on the body the 20 years. And BTW I have seen lots of "older" women enjoying the sport lately.
She did great at Whiteface aand my daughter had the best time skiing 3000' plus in one run. Out west may have better snow but I can think of few areas that beat Whiteface especially when you factor in staying in Lake Placid.

She even has informed me recently that we MUST retire to the mountains. Yahoo!!!!!

Six months 'til ski season for us flat-landers.

Well, my girl has skied longer than Ive been riding; but that was mainly due to the fact that I used to be a competitive swimmer and spent 40 hrs a week in the pool...plus she rips. Its nice not having to wait for a girl.

I did this smart. I set my wife up with private lessons and left them alone. I did the same for her parents, now they are retired to a ski house in Vermont that I have complete access to.

All along I thought you were a women and then I read this and thought you were gay  . Sorry, guess I got things mixed up cause of Severine's trip out west

Hey you need to come over to the boarder side of life and leave those sticks behind .. then what you wear won't matter to the skiers..
I WILL try boarding. But I want another year or two on skis first. It's definitely a goal of mine. And yeah, the boarders do tend to have more outlandish outfits. :D

With all the newschoolers..now us plain jane skiers can pick up a steeze jacket at the Army Navy store for $100. Even the race-honks are trading in their Spyder jackets for steeze jackets that look like fresh roadkill on a white canvas. Holla
