Whether he had to make a call or just wanted privacy, it’s fine with me, but in all my years of skiing this is the first time anyone has told me that they where single, but refused to double up.

Anyone have a similar experience?

About 10 years ago it happened all the time... Probably because i was on a snowboard and was hated amongst the skier crowd,,,

Not so much anymore..

harumph...

I find that the week night school outings at Ski Sundown drive me crazy. There could be a line 20 people deep and these kids fuss over who is going to ride with who as empty chairs go up the mtn.I also love it when I move to one side of the loading area so that others can join me and they all stair off in the distance and pretend not to see me. Do I smell, can they sense that I am soon to be 30 years old and therefor not cool?

No, that is urban behavior. Don't engage with humanity because:
1. You might be an axe murderer
2. They can say they never saw you if there was ever contention for a place in line
3. You might waste their oxygen speaking to them.
4. They're simply selfish, rude and boorish.
5. They might have to yield to you and display good manners.
Their parents failed to teach them common sense an courtesy.

Some days I wished I lived in a more engaging society....

while I like chatting on the lift and talking with different people, the vibe I get from single riding women is that they might not want to appear too friendly in case you have designs on hitting on them. fair enough. I was thrilled to meet a nice woman to ski with on the gondola at Jackson Hole though and found a ski buddy for the rest of my trip.

as for the guys, if there is no need to cram the chair to capacity, i am sure everyone would welcome the relief from crowding onto the lift considering you might be carrying alot of gear. unfortunately, I fall into the category of "metabolically challenged....."

Thanks for the memory

Before we had kids, my wife and I used to split up and take the singles line when the lift lines were long.

When we would get to the top, she would ask, "Well what about the person (people) you rode up with?" I would look at her and ask, "What do you mean?"

"Didn't you find out their names and where they were from?"

"No."

"Do you want to know who I rode up with?"

"No."

"Well, so and so are from anytown and they are up here with...."

My wife is a counsellor and my family has repressed issues.

It's like we were made for each other.

I can't believe anyone here actually believed he wanted to make a phone call.

What did that phone look like? Did it have smoke coming out of it?

if it was a double or triple chair, I wouldn;t have bothered trying to cram in. but if he wanted a quad chair all to himself and there was enough of a backlog, I would have said "F U"

Ugh... sadly, I can believe it.

Unless it was the infamous Ron Mexico, then I would look for smoke....
