Ski area closings

I just noticed on RSN that some areas are starting to close for the season. In Massachusetts Blandford, Otis, Blue Hill and Ski Ward are now closed for the season.

Mountain Creek in New Jersey has closed down South Peak and Granite peak.

In Maine Camden, Titicomb, Mnt Jefferson and Lost Valley are also closed for the season.

These places are small, but it seems a bit early for season endings.

I see that a number of local areas have at least suspended operations and will reopen later in the week. That's not cool, but understandable. The forecast is promising though as we head back into a more seasonal pattern midweek.

I also saw that quite a few places are now shut down mid-week, but with the rain and warm temperatures, it probably is in their best interests to stay closed during that period.

I am thinking about going to Killington this weekend, but 0.5 - 1.0" of rain and then deep freeze conditions, do not make me want to run up north just yet. I am curious as to how Killington can still charge $72 for the priviledge of skiing on sheet ice this week after the freeze up.

NOAA is now forecasting the storm for thursday-friday to stay south of Long Island, which means no dice for a New England snowfall, but good sking on Long Island, urrrgh.

It's certainly a sad state of affairs this year for sure. Yeah, I agree, with the current weather conditions, you'd think they might want to offer "something" to get people to come. But unfortuately on the other hand, they've probably have had a rough year as well and trying somehow to make up for it.

We wanted to go to Killington last weekend, and possibly this weekend, but.....with conditions the way they are.....I'm thinking, it's not gonna happen. :(

some evil scientist is probably behind this. he must have created a force field to prevent the storms from going north!

You should have gone up to Killington last weekend. It was great spring skiing on Saturday and on Sunday until 1 PM (that's when it started raining and getting foggy). There was still plenty of terrain to ski. I am afraid of what I will find this coming weekend after all the rain that has fallen. There will be lots of spring conditions I am sure. The trees were not doable last weekend and I am sure they are even less doable now.

Unfortunately, I doubt it will even be spring conditions this weekend. It's all going to freeze up and be a giant ice skating rink. I doubt Kmart will get a whole lot of snow between now and the weekend.

I went to Catamount yesterday to take advantage of 2 vouchers, but they're closed midweek now.

So I drove over to Hunter and skiied sweet bumps all day, same as Sat and Sun.

Especially this season, I wonder why I ever bother to go anywhere else.

Any idea when Hunter will call it a season? I hope to get up there before they close.

With Hunter's base, we may all wind up there shortly.

Belleayre also blows a ridiculous amount of snow on certain runs as well, they will probably be in good shape for quite some time too.

Tentative closing date for them is also April 16th, and snowmaking is to resume as soon as possible for as long as possible according to their website.

Did it rain hard at Hunter and Belleayre Sun and Mon? I didn't go because of the forecast.

I was at Hunter Sat, Sun and Mon...other than a passing shower on Sat, I stayed dry the whole time. Just lucky I guess, because it did rain hard at times, just not when I was out there skiing.

Magic closed for the season Sunday. I've heard Stratton's closing date is set for 4/8.

I come back from a week in Wyoming and the season seems to be coming to a screaching halt. It doesn't even look like Tuckerman will last long,

I read the threads. Still have to see about the weather. I thought the late snow making would help early pass sales. Know with rumors of early closing seems like talk is in the other direction. I'll have mine by 9.15 am Friday.
