It's not early at all:

a) Most places are in the red right now - with no storms in sight, daily operations will only pull them further into the red. Of the places that stay open (a few of the areas closed for the year may be done altogether), every day they operate will take money out of the following season in terms of improvements and early season snowmaking. Not worth it for this junky season.

b) No one's skiing. Numbers are way down across the board, especially this March vs. last March. Places that are open midweek right now are having next to no one ski - just look at the trip report section of this site right now as an example, nothing really since Sunday.

Magic Mountain (VT) is closed for the season. I just called and confirmed. The guy who answered said they "ran out of Magic".

They are almost a total natural snow area, that explains a good deal of it.
Too bad, I was gonna give away a free voucher. Sorry guys, I'm off to Steamboat next week.....
