Ski Area Count

How many different areas have you been to? For comparison purposes, let's limit this to an operating ski area with at least one lift of any kind. If you want to list out BC separately, go for it. NELSAP is okay as long as you skied the area when it was open (with these two stipulations, I can not claim Bolton which I have only earned and Mittersill, Watatic, and Sea View which are lost, etc.). For areas that have separated, only count both if you skied them each when separate (Crotched East/West, Cannon/Mittersill, Ellen/Lincoln, etc.), otherwise they count as one area with multiple peaks. Might be nice to separate out east versus west versus world as well, for comparison sake.

30 for me, east only.

Counting backcountry/earned, I have skied about 40 mountains depending on how you evaluate the term "mountain" as an individual peak and if you include various aspects/locations of the same mountain when earning turns, quite a few more.

30 seems kind of low considering how long I have been skiing. One of my biggest goals these past few seasons has been to explore new "to me" areas. I bet billski has the highest total on AZ.

First I'm going to note just 2009-10 = 10 different lift-served areas, already easily my best single season for ski area diversity. Yesterday at Magic was my first repeat.

Current career total: 36

East: 31, with an asterisk: I'm counting Crotched East (1989, just before it was NELSAPped) as separate from the current Crotched (West). The areas were combined at the time but given the convoluted history to that point and since, I think there's a pretty good case for listing Crotched East separately. Also, I forget if Crotched West wasn't open that day but I don't recall skiing over there then (it was early season, IIRC). In any event, of course I shall bow to the ruling of the judges.

I've skied seven states thus far. Have a strange desire to ski Cloudmont in Alabama someday ... In New England I need to hit Yawgoo to get RI under my belt, and I've never skied CT either. Anyone know of any decent ski areas there? *ducks*

Aside from Crotched East I rode lifts at one other place that is now lost (though not on NELSAP): "Beautiful" Mount Airy Lodge, "your host with the most in the Poconos," in 1980. You could see Camelback from the "summit." I used to have the patch pictured (along with a lot of great info) here. Here's a commercial with skiing images and an earworm for anyone who else who grew up in the NYC area in the 60s, 70s or 80s:
