Ski Area Haters....always amuse / amaze me

I second the notion that you have to give a ski resort more than one day. I hit Gunstock on New Year's Day, a tad hung over, spent all morn with the littlest kid, then hit the mountain in the PM and it was super crowded, skied off and sucked. And it was fogged in so you couldn't even enjoy the view. So is that Gunstock's issue or stupid me's issue.

Now let's please stop talking about this horrible Ragged place. Ssssssshhhhhhhhh. Nothing to see here. Keep driving north.

There aren't any ski areas I hate, I just hate crowds and long lines. That being said, each year I take 5 or so weekdays off from work over the course of the winter and go to ski areas I know are overcrowded on the weekends. On the weekends, I go to the ski areas I know aren't too crowded. In my 5 years of skiing, I've been to 30 or so ski areas, and had fun at them all.

I was a Gore once.. And the conditions sucked that day... But I'm going back because even though it was a rink the terrain still looked great.

Same experience. Haven't gotten back yet though. Not big vertical, but very interesting looking terrain.

Right on, man! That is one of the scariest downhill scenarios I've done. Packed trail, unpredictable lines of fellow travelers, trails merging, snow skied off hours ago, late afternoon shadows blue and cold. Someone who can appreciate that, is someone who must really love winter.

That's it. Ski areas, like people have good days and bad days. The problem is the sucky weather is more often uncooperative than gift-filled. I'm glad to see this crowd is enlightened enough not to write off an area based on a few visits.

Then again, I've never had a good day at Smuggs. I think Ullr doesn't want me there...:???:

we stopped at Gore on the way back from camping in August to check out the view of the mountain. It looks very interesting, with what looks to be some very narrow trails.

The last time I was at Stowe was 26 years ago. There was a wicked blizzard; blowing, cold, windy, snowing. I remember they threw blankets on us as we got on the chair. I then followed two guys (husband and b-i-l) who thought they knew where they were going. They took me down a very tough trail because they actually had no clue. Apparently they don't need no stinkin' trail map! The conditions weren't optimum to say the least AND I was pregnant. The whole scary incident wasn't the mountains fault. : )

Me neither but I have only been to smuggs twice.

Crap as an Old Fart I 'm just happy as hell to ski anywhere -- I've had fun at 240 vert behemoths or 3100 vert serious mountains . --= as far as skiing is concerned it all just a great friggin time -- Just SOME better than others -- like women

That's been my experience with Waterville...and it's actually the reason I want to get back there this season.

anyone who doesn't like Killington hasn't skied it enough.

I just tend to hate some of the people there.....or dislike might be a better word. It certainly has a large asshole factor (Sugarloaf, Cannon, Burke, and local hills are my comparison) The mountain is good, not as special as some people think it is from a terrain perspective, but still very good, it has the nightlife (if you like that thing), contrary to popular belief it isn't really all that crowded (and I had a pass there during the ASC days), it has solid snowfall (most of it ends up in the woods, which is a plus for many on here), base lodges are pretty dumpy (I like that though). My biggest hate towards the place is the few weeks/month off the backend of the season.

it is harder for your weekend warrior to have a good time at a resort because they are surrounded with others like themselvs. when you can ski during the week and non holidays life is good. Every mountain is better. No lines, less ice, and less gapers. I know not everyone can do that but i am sure glad i can.

Hail the old farts.

Last season I was standing in an endless liftline at Hunter after a 7 foot mega dump listening to people bitch and moan because the lifts had to be dug out and they had to wait. I mean, puhleeease, give me a break.

I was happy as hell to see that much snow at Hunter, and the wait seemed quite short once I got to skiing the bottomless snowfall. I think alot of people just like to hear themselves complain.
