Guess I would say area, but, it depends how you define them. My favorite place is Cannon, not a 'resort' in terms of slopeside condos hotel etc. As much as I ski Cannon I ski Loon Mountain, which is turning into a resort. It already has slopeside condos, quite a few hotels, a development currently under construction, and a lot more houses, condos, and big hotels to be built in the near future! I can remember when North Peak was new!

I consider all the places I ski at to be "Ski Areas", regardless of if they have a "resort" or not, because I don't use the "resort" aspects. Outside of skiing, I use: Hotel room, restaurant (maybe).

I ski mostly at Killington and even though Powdr would like to make it a true resort it is not yet that. I does have a great nightlife though so maybe calling it strictly a ski area is not accurate. Like others have said, I do not usually go out to the clubs so for me Killington is a ski area.

Resort, examples: 'Bush, Stowe, Jay, Killington, Okemo, Tremblant. In WV, Timberline, Cannan, Snowshoe
Ski Area: Whiteface, MRG. Anything in PA except Sever Springs.

It's hard to say Whiteface is a full service resort. And staying in Lake Placid is not exactly resort lodging, except the one uppity hotel on Mirror Lake.

I'd say that my usual, Mount Snow, is a resort. Plenty of non skier/rider stuff to do, and there's also plenty of things to do in the non snow months.

Ski area until we get an on mountain waffle house and foo-foo coffee (e.g., cost $4.50 a cup and has names I can not pronounce).
