I'm thinking about joining the New Haven Ski Club. My son and I ski a fair amount and I am interested in skiing more and driving less. It seems like they run a lot of bus trips. Anybody have experience with them or other ski clubs? What should I expect? How does it work out cost-wise vs. driving up on your own?

Thanks all.

If you want to save some money and drive less ski club bus trips are a good way to go. I have never been on a NH Ski Club trip, but I'm sure there are similarities to skiing on other Ski Club bus trips.

A mid-week bus trip may be different, but on weekends I prefer to drive myself for the flexibility driving offers. I like getting early tracks and most buses show up around 9:00 to 9:30 and you are waiting in the mother of all lift lines at the base area a half hour later. i also like chaing the best conditions and that means a flexible plan of hitting a different mountain that 8 inches of lake effect versus an inch.

Thanks guys,

Worcester is kind of far for us.

I hear you about chasing conditions, but am not an early enough riser to drive 3 hours and make it to a mountain before 8:30. In fact, we've been going to Jiminy vs. Catskills areas a lot becuase of their time-based ticket system. We start around 10:30 and go to 6ish.

Good point about family trips vs. singles scene. There is a local club near me, the CT ski Bears or Norwalk Ski Bears or something, that I think is mostly young adult partiers.

New Haven Ski Club seems, at least from their website, to be a family oriented club. They are having an open house on 10/25 so I think I may go check it out.

Here's the old ski club thread. I think if you go with any of the Connecticut Ski Council clubs you'll do well.

Try www.skiclub.org to see the list of ski clubs in CT. The New haven Ski club is fairly active with bus trips and routinely invites other clubs to join in. You may want to consider a club that has a house in VT if you are big on getting up early to catch lift opening at 8:00 AM. I know the Sikorsky Ski Club has a big house in Ludlow, VT and they are usually looking for members.
