ski only mountains

This is not an indictment of snowboarders. I have a child who has a snowboard phobia. Are there ski only mountains in New England or at least mountains where there are separate areas for skiers/boarders. Thanks.

I can't think of any other than these: http://snowboarding.about.com/od/travelresorts/tp/ban_snowboards.htm . If your child is going to take up skiing and grow with it, there won't be too many opportunities without encountering riders. No offense, but it may be easier to work on the phobia.

Hi dogman. Sorry to be blunt, but your child needs to get over their snowboard phobia. You should not shelter your child but rather continue to expose him/her to the wide variety of planks used to go downhill. Just to answer your question, Mad River Glen is the only area in New England with any snowboard restrictions that I am aware of and there are only two others nation wide (Alta and Deer Valley in UT... no more Taos starting next season, IIRC).

Well said! Was there a specific incident that caused this fear, or was the perception that all snowboarders are bad somehow instilled in him/her?

I kind of agree, that there is a difference. I also had an awesome week in Alta, sans snowboarders. (Although, I think the week would have been awesome at snowbird as well with boarders....but still better at Alta, perhaps having nothing to do with boarders being there or not!).

I also own a Burton board. In fact, I have an Alta and a Mad River sticker on my board.

People are different. People are different colors and religions. People use different things to get downhill as well as to drive along the road. It just doesn't matter. Can't we all get along?

But seriously, I do agree with those who've said that the phobia needs to be eliminated. If it's manic, then certainly you'd want to do it slowly in a controlled environment, but you aren't doing your child any good by enabling the fear. It's like teaching a person who's afraid of trucks how to drive a car.

Yeah!! Stupid snowboards, they're responsible for all those evil things, but mostly the snowboard is responsible for the evolution of the parabolic ski shape. And we all know, the parabolic or "shaped" ski has been responsible for smooth carved turns, instead of jerky skidded ones. The shaped ski can also be blamed for a floundering industry to be able to turn itself around.
