Date(s) Skied: Friday, 1/12/2007 - 6:40 pm - 10:15 pm

Resort or Ski Area: Ski Sundown, New Hartford, CT

Conditions: Tacky manmade snow, some hard pack & LGR. Warm near 40*F, Mostly clear. CROWDED!

Trip Report: I could tell as soon as I pulled in the lot that it would be a crowded night. Several buses and the main lot was almost full. Luckily they were spinning both triples so I loaded the Lift 2. While it was very crowded the lift line was never more than a few minutes. I took a short run down Upper Nor'easter where some nice bumps were forming and saw Grassi21 already waiting at the deck. Instead of trying to squeeze a run in I decided to stop and chat with Chris.

We saw loafer89 and Warren ski by so we waited for them to come back up. We gave madskier6 until 7:10 and then decided to head out. The snow was is really good shape - deep powdery manmade, albeit a bit sticky from the day's warmth. Coverage was side-to-side and very good. I would say the mountain is in the best shape it's been in so far this season. Still some scratchy spots showing up later as the base firmed up with the cooler temps, but overall pretty edgeable. A really nice little bump line formed at the top of Nor'easter. I stuck to skier's left mostly where by the end of the night a really nice line formed. Some erratically spaced bumps on Temptor with still some thin cover there. Another fun line formed on Lower Nor'easter, skier's left.

Chris split around 8:30 as he had been there since before 5 pm so I took a few more runs with loafer89. Around 9 pm at the summit we finally bumped into madskier9! Luckily he recognized me as we all but gave up looking for him. Loafer and I took a few runs with him and then Kevin and Warren called it a night. I took a few more runs with Jeff. At one point on the top of Temptor I cheked the time - 9:58. Bomb it!

Jeff and I were able to squeeze in one more run on Nor'easter. We took our time and chatted a bit a the top of Lower Nor'easter and again on Ex. Super nice guy. Good skier, family guy. It was good to get to know you, Jeff. All in all a great night! Nice fun lines. A bit of snow was made on Gunbarrel so that's on its way. Tons of snow on Nor'easter. Hope the seeding starts soon. So...some good skiing with great company, including a new AZer which was a bonus! Got a great crew of Sundowners forming!

It was nice to get out again tonight and meet up with some new people. Warren is exhausted and asleep right now after probably 20 runs today, as we had already done 8 when I meet up with you and Grassi21. We need some moguls on Noreaster to liven things up and I look forward to my first turns of the season on Gunbarrel next week.

Now I hope for good skiing weather this weekend at Okemo. Hopefully you find good sking/weather wherever you wind up this weekend as well.

I should also mention that they made enough snow to run the carpet lift on Little Joe. I'm excited about this as I want to get my daughter back up there soon.

It was a great night to get out and do some turns. I truly enjoyed skiing with Greg and Loafer. I regret getting there too late to have missed skiing with Grassi21. I'm sure there will be plenty more nights of skiing at Sundown this season. Thanks for the good company, Greg and Loafer!

Loafer: I look forward to more nights at Sundown skiing together. I'm sure my son Kevin will enjoy skiing with Warren. Warren appears to be unflappable!

Greg: I definitely enjoyed skiing with you tonight. I appreciate the kind words in your post. You're a damn good skier yourself and I look forward to skiing some bump runs with you. Hopefully, we can ski together up at Sugarbush at some point this season. We should hit Castlerock together!

What a great night of skiing!

Great to meet Loafer and Warren. Despite the crowds last night I got enough runs in to get a good quad burn going. Yard sale aside I had a great time at good old Sundown.

What yard sale?

I know nozing, I see nozing.

At least you avoided the excellent grass skiing.

My legs are definitely feeling a burn from all of those runs last night and it's Greg's fault for making me follow him with tighter turns on the trail edges.:-D

I guess that it's high time to start paying attention to my form again and not on the scenery going by, ah too much work.

By far the most "core" part of the night was loafer checking AZ on his hand held while riding the lift. That's mad "steeze" (that one's for you Greg).

What a great night of skiing!
Glad you enjoyed our little local hill. Check back when we have a bumped Nor'easter and Gunny for some variety.

Yard sale aside I had a great time at good old Sundown.
Sorry I missed that!

Skier's left, baby! Just trying to get geared up for the moguls!

Sounds like you guys had a good time as usual. I'm sorry I missed it... :(

I skied there for a couple of hours after work today. The conditions were pretty good despite the rain this morning and general dreary day all day. The snow was soft and edge-able, but never got to the slush point.
