Resort or Ski Area: Ski Sundown

Conditions: Loose granular, spring like

Trip Report: Got up there and on snow at about 6:30pm tonight. Still plenty of coverage left from what I could see. The bumps on Nor'Easter were about the same as the last time I was there, except for much softer. Only a few spots of brown showing through in the troughs. The Ex bumps are a different story, the groomers took away one or two lanes from skiers left in the middle and several rows from the top. There didn't seem to be quite as much brown showing in the remaining troughs at least.

I felt like a total gaper there all night and ended up calling it a night early at around 9:30. I just couldn't seem to make my turns and/or control my speed. I actually felt like they were skiing faster tonight then Wednesday when I was last there, when they were pretty much frozen solid. I had several careening out of control, bouncing off bumps, gaper moves (actually that happened at least once a run I think). I also took a few spills including one particularly nice super-man like face plant on the ex bumps, much to the delight of peanut gallery on the chair lift...

Nice night to be out, I just wish I was skiing a bit better... You guys should have fun in the bumps tomorrow...

Thanks for the report B. I'll make the gaper in all of us proud today.

Aha! So that's why you were home early!

Sorry you had a night in gaper-dom, but at least you got out of the house! ;) I'm glad I gave up my night out for you to go. Hopefully I'll be ready for some on-hill time by the end of the week.

Just out of curiosity.... Do you two ever speak (to each other) in person?:lol:

We do, but I told her that I came home early to help out with things around the house... Forgot that she reads these TRs too... ;)

I had a feeling they were going to start whacking away at the Ex bumps. With all the novices in there (a good thing), the lines just don't hold up. Perhaps they'll rework them later in the season. Oh well. We're still a million miles ahead of where we were at this point last year. I have 7 days in on the bumps already. Last year at this time: 0.

Sorry to hear you were struggling. I've had funky sessions like that too.

Nah, he just sits in the kitchen on the desktop and I in the living room with the laptop, and we type messages to each other on here. ;) That is when we're home together...

He's right, though. He told me he came home early to help out. Now I know the real reason. ;)

Like Greg, I had days/nites where nothing seems to work.

Something to consider, the thaw is making conditions soft and when you're use to firmer snow, you have to make adjustments. With me, I get use to getting on edge faster and weighted more due to firmer snow. So when it softens up, I end up catching an edge and then it rails... getting more speed at the end of the turn.

Thanks for the tip. I was definitely catching plenty of edges. I was also having problems with the tails getting caught up, which tells me I was too far in the back seat for whatever reason.
