Date(s) Skied: Tuesday, 1/8/2008, 1:15 - 5 pm

Resort or Ski Area: Ski Sundown, Connecticut

Conditions: Soft bumps, slush. Very warm with temps in the high 50's cooling to the lower 50's. Calm. Mostly sunny/hazy skies.

Trip Report: Goal today was to get in some quality daylight hours on the bumps in the warm weather before the rains come. Glad I did. Overall, the mountain has plenty of snow, but the bumps are starting to show some signs of deterioration.

Boarded lift 2 at 1:15 and took a few runs. Nor'Easter was firmer than expected. Certainly not icy, but not mush either. The Ex bumps were dirty mush with only a few short quality lines in there. Still fun though.

Eventually saw Grassi + wife and took a few runs with them. Saw Chris again later in the afternoon. The school groups showed up between 3 and 4 and I suffered through dealing with bratty adolescents until 5 pm. Lift 1 opened around 4 pm so the singles line there made things move along.

There are several burned out troughs in NE now. Most are just dirt and grass, but one is legit rock ledge. After tomorrow's rain and warmth, we are going to completely lose a few troughs. Luckily this warm spell is temporary.

All in all, a quality semi-solo afternoon. Probably banged out 25 bump runs.

Good taking a few runs with you today. What is the name of that trail we skied? I had a few moments today where I was feeling good. I def. enjoyed NE more than Ex. T-Rex arms are holding me back.

Amy and I commented on how bad we felt for you as we saw the school kids filing in.

Legs were cooked today. I think the holiday eating and lack of conditioning over the past two weeks is killing me. Back to conditioning with the HS kids this week.

Good to get a few runs in with you, Chris. I was impressed with some of your skiing today (sans that gaper-spin-move-single-ejection on the Canyon run flats!). Lose the T-Rex arms and "punch" those hands out a bit more. Keep at it. You are progressing quickly.

I was reaching more with my poles on one of my last two runs. Felt good. I'm bringing the Heads next time I hit the mighty Sundown. Wish I could have made a few more runs. I want to blame wifey but my legs were fatigued.

I'm kinda sad I missed your wipe-out on NE. ;-) It sounded spectacular.

Went down again after you left, in the actual bumps this time though. I guess it's a good sign if you fall forward while in the bumps, at least. I just don't like sliding head-first.

Sounds like the conditions were about as expected. Too bad some of the troughs are getting so beat, otherwise the mountain would be in great shape.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who took a fall or two in the bumps the last couple of days...

Most of the mountain is holding up fine, but I suspect that many troughs on both NE and Ex will burn out given today's rain/warmth/wind. I hope they don't feel compelled to plow them, but that's an honest concern I have.

Fell in the Ex bumps too...

Ouch, sucks to hear :( I'm glad that the mountain itself is holding out well though...hopefully it chills out soon and we can get back to normal.
