Area skied: Ski Sundown, C.T
Date skied: December 12th, 2006 from 5-8pm.
Surface conditions: wet packed snow, granular.
After driving to Ski Sundown for the first time from work Warren and I booted up and took to the slopes at 5pm, but not before meeting up and introducing my son and I to Bvibert.
Warren is new to his 124cm K2 ski's this season so he needed some easier skiing and Canyon Run had the perfect snow and pitch to build his confidence right back up to last season's levels.
We took 6 runs down Canyon Run and meet up with Brian a few times along the way as Warren's pace is still far behind that of an adult.
The snow was hero soft snow that made for easy carving on 90% of the open terrain and we only encountered ice on parts of the center of Stinger.
The mountain was fairly empty with perhaps 100-150 people out on the slopes. The temperature was a warm 39F when we started skiing. Base depths are impressive and deeper than most trails that I skied on in Maine last weekend. The warm weather is taking it's toll though and there are some thin and bare spots poking through on Canyon Run and Exhibition. Hopefully the rain does not do too much damage to the snowcover.
Here are some pictures from last night, I need to work on my nightime photography:
