OK Brett, I apologize. Let's just agree to disagree. We probably have more in common than this thread would indicate - and it really never started out as a discussion of Hunter Mtn. Enjoy yourself out there - it would appear that the spring skiing season is going to really rock this year...

On top of all that - Sushi, nice terrain - my cellphone even worked there. Hallelujah. (Verizon). So did two of my friends' (both also had Verizon). The little indicator only showed 1-2 bars - and those intermittantly (in the base lodge) but the calls went through crystal clear.

I saw a Plattekill trail map yesterday. The place looks awesome, and with all the expert terrain I can see what some of the posters here are talking about. I've never been there because it's a bit farther to drive and in lean snow years I know they don't have the snowmaking of a place like Hunter. But I'm really eager to go there now.
Can anyone tell me if any of their lifts are high speed - like detachable quads? That would surprise me. If not, I'll still go, just curious.

Highspeeds? Oh, not quite, the big deal is that they went from a T bar to a chairlift a few years ago. They have a triple chair and a double, both fixed grip, and both are slow for a fixed grip.

I get it - old school, small Catskill resort, great terrain, older lifts, low profie, low key - all that's fine, although I have to say that that fast quad @ Hunter does spoil you for the older lifts. Remember when that detachable quad was an old style double chairlift that took an agonizing 15 minutes (on a cold windy day it felt more like 30) to grind to the summit. Now the quad whisks you up in about 7 or 8 - you really get a feel for how fast it is when it goes over those cliffs on the front of the mountain to the right of Racer's Edge just past the new condo's they're building at the base. It's even fun to ride it's so quick...

Yeah the highspeed at Hunter is nice. I don't think Plattekill needs a highspeed, but if they could speed up the fixed grip it would be nice. It is the old double from Belleayre, and it isn't too comfy.
Alta has the nicest fixed grip lifts, comfy and quick, but they are getting rid of most of them for highspeeds. I actually am not a fan of the new Collins lift, it is too quick, there was something about the pace of the old Alta lifts that made things nice. I wonder what other Alta skiers think of the new Collins lift.
