Anyone ski during or immediately after the Blizzard of 78? I was stranded on a farm.... I suspect the high winds made lift-assist impossible, perhaps even damaged lifts?
Would like to hear a story or three...

I was working in a Hospital in Ct. They had us on the roof shoveling snow because they were afraid the cafeteria roof was going to cave in. I called my brother the next day in Killington and asked if they needed another roommate. That was the start of the three best yrs of my life.

I was in Maine and 9 yrs old. We didn't get hit as hard as MA, but I remember it was a great year for building snow tunnels through the yard.

Wow, memories of the '70's are really murky as it was the era of free love, booze, rock music and non-stop parties. The Blizzard of '78 was largely a costal storm with the mega snowfall being from CT, RI and Eastern Mass. I was in college in western Mass and some of the skiing I did was on cross country skis for beer. The highways around Boston we shutdown for a week making for uncrowded lifts and the slopes had lots of fresh snow at Mt Snow, Haystack and Carinthia.

I was 7 years old and living in Pennsylvania at the time. The county I lived in had about 20 school districts. On the day the storm hit (it was nice that morning), all but one of them closed, with my school district (Oley Valley) being the only one to open.

Sometime around 11:00, they realized they had made a big mistake, and started calling parents, running buses, etc. to send kids home. Very rural area; somebody they got everybody home though. My brother and I lived only a mile or so from school, and this was before we realized how exceedingly dangerous "walking to school" is, so we just walked home through a raging blizzard.

We lived at the end of a dead-end street, so the snow-plows would just push massive piles of snow just past our driveway. Perfect for snow forts.

I am a blizzard baby, Feb. 7th, 1978. My birthdays growing up were always postponed due to snow.
