Yay! Sugarloaf. Suprised Sugarbush didn't make the cut here.

Top 10 list:

1. Stowe

2. Killington, VT

3. Jay Peak, VT

4. Sugarloaf, ME

5. Mont Tremblant, QC

6. Mad River Glen, VT

7. Sunday River, ME

8. Snowshoe, WV

9. Stratton, VT

10. Whiteface Mountain, NY

Slight loss of credibility IMHO by including Stratton but thankfully no Holiday Valley in the top 10

Wow Killington #2, pretty impressive considering the venom spewed by many Kzoners. Wow no NH resorts.

One thing I take from this is that the Mountians in the top 10 have a real die hard followings. Which is why I am surprised a Cannon or a Wildcat did not make it.

Really surprised to see Flatton on there.....never been impressed with that place.

Usually, Cannon and Wildcat don't show up on these lists because they're not "resorts". But then again, MRG is on here, so I don't know what to say.

I'm very surprising that Sugarbush is off the list and MRG (which isn't a resort but offers great skiing) is included, but these lists rarely align with my view of skiing.

got #1 right anyhow

Never been so can't knock it....and just out of curiousity is the 350" legit? That is very impressive.

Also I think I agree with most of the entry's on there. Not necessarily the order, but that's a pretty good top ten save Stratton, and perhaps Snowshoe (for the fact I have never been).

I would be interested to see if they did one of these from a strictly skiing point of view. Minus all the ski school, apres, and location stuff and just did a stictly quality of snow, snowmaking, grooming and terrain, maybe keep lifts on there as well. I wonder who would be dropped from the top 10 and where those that are remaining would stack up.

You never know how they come upwith these lists. Sugarbush was profiled last year in the "Inside Line" section which usually features mountains that are preferred by Skiing readers. Ski magazine dedicates a whole issue to the Top 50 "Resorts" where Skiing has a better focus on mountains more than the resort

yes... 350 is accurate... i've had some of the best ski days of my life at that place. i miss being a passholder there in the worse way. i can't decide for myself if stowe or jay is my favorite tree skiing venue. guess i'll have to keep experimenting untill i decide.

The lack of Sugarbush disqualifies this list immediately for me.

Also, given what Mt. Snow has done with their snowmaking and Carinthia, how Stratton makes it ahead of Mt. Snow is astounding to me, coming from a guy that has skied his fair share of (free) days at Stratton.

The Holiday Valley thing was always silly. I think you can put Snowshoe in the same boat. For many people it is obviously the best game in the area but if you are 6 hours from a Snowshoe and 6 hours from at least 20 non-top ten ski areas in NY, VT, NH, ME, and Quebec, Snowshoe is not on the radar. The same is true for Holiday Valley. I am 5-6 hours from Holiday Valley and it is just not a choice for me.

Even Holiday Valley vs Snowshoe.........Snowshoe!

For most people, the only thing HV lacks is vert. Tons of groomers up to moderate pitch, decent park offerings, nice lodging, good snowfall (though wet,) and Ellicotville's a good ski town. Plus it makes Ski's list, not Skiing's (what was that discussion about how the two magazines owned by the same company can't agree?)

And for Hamilton, ON, to Rochester, to Cleveland, it's a decently easy drive, so the market is huge for those that don't want to make a 4+ hour drive to Hunter or 6 hour drive to Whiteface or Killington.

Plus it's graduated some pretty awesome skiers.

The most sensible list I've seen although I've never skied Stowe and I'm not a fan of Killington. I think I'm going to make Stowe my #1 goal this year.

:uzi: What a bogus list! Those in the know would tell you that Cochrans is at the top, followed by Burke, Snow Bowl and Skiway!

:snow:

This list seems to represent the places where you can drop the most amount of change in a weekend, excepting MRG, which, who the hell know how that got on the list. Remember, they target the vacationer who sleeps late, gets on the slopes by 11, in the bar by 3, then drinking and eating their way across town.

In a few years you may very well find Saddleback on this list...

No. 1 is correct. Tremblant, the usual No. 1 took a beating. Also dismayed to see Sugarbush get no love. Canon and Wildcat won't make it because it's a resort-based thing I gather. Both make my Top 10 though easily.

Snowshoe........yeah.
