Plenty of interest in the photo contest, so let's select a themes like we did last time. Here are some of the theme suggested in the past:
  • Chair Lifts
  • "Fun"
  • Moguls
  • View From Summit
  • Yard Sale
I'd like to get some more suggestions and I'll then poll this out to determine the theme for the contest. Post suggestions here!

How 'bout a category for both new and from the archives?

Rule for "from the archives":
The picture may not be from this season.

Heres my opinion. Start the contest now, for the first one just dont have a theme, just so you can get as many pics as possible. Having a theme may kill this contest, again. So have all pics due in by feb 1, and have the voting for one week. So voting will end feb 8th. If if goes well maybe have a theme one later in the year. Also for rules: the pic must be from this season, and must be from the north east.

I'll second that motion. Keep it open. If you want you can have special awards.

It seems like most pictures could fall into one of two categoriesL
Skiing
or
Scenic

Now of course there could be scenic pictures of people skiing with the views of Mount Washington in the background but that would classify as Skiing in my book since it has someone skiing in the picture.

How does that sound?

I second that. Great idea, simple but very good.

Okay. I added a poll. I'll leave this up and then post a new thread with more info to get started. All pics will need to be from the Northeast. Perhaps, to add a challenge, how about requiring the entries to be shots taken within the specified "photography time period", i.e. within the month of February '06?

i am going to advocate for my arm and request the 2005-2006 season. seems kinda hard to enforce since most pics are not date stamped and you could easily photoshop a stamp.

Can you use an image editor to modify the EXIF data that most cameras stamp?

Can we submit pictures of Eastern skier skiing out west or will this be a strictly eastern scene photo contest only?

It's trivial with the right software, but I don't think you can do it with normal image-editing programs. I only have Photoshop on hand with which to test, and it won't let me edit the in-camera EXIF info (timestamp, lens, focal length, etc).
