I haven't been monitoring Herb's track record, but this looks great:

After a couple of sizable snow threats in the West over the next ten days, the upper level trough is going to reform in the Great Lakes and East, which will produce below normal temps with several snow threats during the first half of the month of March.

You have a legit shot Pat.

The pattern on years I go to MRG for my trees/steeps clinic is snow the 2 days of the clinic, then snow the following weekend during MRG telefest.

I believe that telefest is 3/10-11.

AZ/SkiMRV outing? I'll make cookies.

Actually, independent trips. I'm up with the family, but we'll likely hook up for some turns at some point...

Open to those PSIA certified only.

$125 gets you a 2 day pass, an examiner, a guide from MRG, and away we go.

I know alot of folks don't think too much of being an instructor, but it does have some perks.

Any reason why its only open to PSIA certs?

Because it's run by PSIA. They sponsor it, organize the examiners and guides.

The reason it's so cheap is because it's open only to those who have certification and pay PSIA dues. How else could you get a deal like that?

Hey, that's one way to do it.

You sound like my buddy Steve who would rather die than hire a guide for anything. Steve will sit in a boat and catch nothing and watch guided boats landing lunker after lunker and insist that there is no soul in being shown things.

I'm down with the soul thing, but it has its' limits. I would never figure out half of the stashes the guide will show me if I tried by myself. Not at all ashamed to admit it either.

Im not against guides per se but I wouldnt "hire" one at MRG....I understand that you're not "hiring" one its part of the package...if its a package deal i'd take it too....sounds liek a good deal...have a blast...find the stashes and share... ;-)

Outside of this deal I wouldn't hire a guide for MRG either, but it's nice to have as part of the package. Also good because the examiner is usually not a local and they kind of step back and leave things to the guide. So, very little standing and talking, alot of sking.
