Smuggs is my home mountain.
The main run down Sterling and Madonna have a pretty good cover right now. Basically, anything that sees a lot of man-made snow is pretty good considering the weather we've been having. I was up over the weekend and was surprised by how good the conditions were. I would hope by mid January more terrain is open.
At this point in the game, I'd be hesitant going off the groomers unless you have some designated rock skis.
I'd direct you to a page on their site but their server must be having issues (or me:dunce: ) If you check out their photo of the day/Hughs Blog, that usually gives a pretty good idea of what their conditions are like.

Thanks Dan....I'm having the same issue with their site now, on it everyday!! Fell in love with Smuggs last winter, great family destination, great terrain for me (Robins Run etc) Great trees and steep groomers for the wife, awesome ski school for out 4 yr old and fantastic day care for the now 1.5 yr old)...its out of the way and still has the New England Charm that too many places are losing....

Yeah, I can see where if you were bringing the fam, Smuggs would be a great mountain. But like you pointed out, they do have a bunch of challenging terrain too. They've got some really nice woods up there! Now we just need the snow!
Smuggs is my default plan for the weekend from now until the last day of the season, so feel free to post on this thread again if you want another update before making your trip.

thanks Dan, I'll definatly be asking again, not that it'll change our plans, just like to know the conditions before i go...although last year we started skiing on Saturday 55 degrees and muddy, that afternoon was a full out dumping and the rest of the week was great!!

smuggs, for the expert skiier has world class terrain. you just need the $$$ to bribe a local into taking you there. I for one was lucky, i work there on and off and my fellow instructors are always trying to show off to the NYer, they usually fail (last one broke his arm getting to cocky)

I wasn't able to make it up this past weekend. :( I am hoping to be up this weekend though.
I heard that last weekend M1 and M2 were closed but they hoped to have them open again for this week. On the plus side, I think they finally opened up Black Snake/Racing Slope.

Some good news....snowmaking on Smugglers Ally. I need something steeper. I've been having fun everytime I go up so far but I need something that gets the heart pumping a bit more. Skiing is skiing and skiing is fun but it would be nice to get on some more difficult trails/into the woods.
Any how, I'm aching to get on some trails other than the main runs down M1 and Sterling and it looks like that might happen this weekend. I've give a report early next week.

Me the kids and adopted brother/sister are headed out there at the end of Febuary..

Hey, if we lease one of the timeshares up there direct from the timeshare owner, do we still get all the privies as if we had rented a condo directly from smugs?
