We plan on it, figured I'd get some feedback.

Yes, it's the first time up there. The kids are spazzed about it after watching the free DVD they sent me.

I also like the idea of taking some lessons so I can be less of a fool on ski's turning wrong all over the place :dunce:

we went for the first time as a fam last Jan (I was there when i was single, sick terrain when there is snow) we didnt touch the truck in 5 days, the indoor funzone is great, indoor pool, outdoor skating when mother nature permits....the daycare facility is beauitful with a fantastic staff, the ski-school for the little ones is unreal, they'll keep em skiing, entertained and fed from 9a-430 to give you a full day on the hill...every day around 4 they set up hot chocholate and a bon fire with some staff around and the Smuggs Mouse walking around .... we are leaving next Friday

Me the kids and adopted brother/sister are headed out there at the end of Febuary..

Hey, if we lease one of the timeshares up there direct from the timeshare owner, do we still get all the privies as if we had rented a condo directly from smugs?

I worked behind the front desk one summer during college. I believe you would get all the privies that you would when you were renting a condo....but don't quote me on that. I am trying to think back four or five years. The front desk should be able to answer that question though.

In other news: Skiquatro, I will try to post some pics and/or give a report after heading up this weekend. I have not been up for like two weeks and am going crazy. Must ski!!! It has been cold though so i am sure they are making snow every chance they get. We also got a few inches of the real deal a few days ago.

Skiquattro you just might be hitting Northern VT at a PERFECT time. All the weather reports I am seeing says cold and stormy starting tomorrow. Just make sure you bring LOTS of layers as it gets cold up there!

Have fun and give us a full report. I have two daughters (9 & 4) and would love to take them and the wife to Smuggs one day. The only issues that have kept us from going is the distance from Northern NJ (though my older daughter and I have hit Stowe and Jay the last two years) and the price! They do have great packages and activities but they are so expensive!

Anyway have a blast!

Smuggs has got to be one of my favorite ski areas/towns around....it at the top of the Notch for Lunch on the top of sterling, eat breakfast in the lodge, and either we eat dinner in the condo (I like to cook...ok, and have a cocktail or 7)..but it's really neat to eat out at the local eateries....and explore the surronding towns....also the Grand Union is just down the road, so there really isn't a reason to shop before you get there

And Haney's is the local liquor store...you just won't know it...it's in the back

And you must go hjang with the locals at Brewskis....just keep it low key...they'll warm u to you...just go in for at least 1 beer at the end of each day...plus they have a lot of good taps.....

Oh, I wave hi to the Jettsons for me

And check out Hugh's blog...nice guy..been there forever it seems

http://www.smuggs.com/pages/winter/skiride/hughs-blog.php

Man I'd love to get up there..gotta check skyauction

Kid's don't need ski school anymore...after 4 years of ski camp there...they can ski just about anything...they never wanted to leave at the end of the day....but then there was always the fun zone and the pool/jacuzzi....

I am no longer a fan of getting wet in the pool after skiing..I prefer the in room jacuzzi for 2 in the master bath...just lock the door

it is a great spot, honestly, with the 2 kids, they are wiped at the end of the day, so its off the the pool/fun zone, dinner at the condo or at the base and they are in bed, no going off site...we bring plenty of food/beer/wine/movies so when the kiddes goto sleep, the wife and i crank up the fire and have a nice evening....Smuggs has a great set up, cant wait for Friday to leave!!! Pray for snow!!

no going off site...

Ah, then you miss most of the flavor of the area...we like to explore...not every day mind you, and not to chain places...not there is many of them, but I wouldn't go into the mexican joint...if I want mexican, I'll make it

But we liked 158 Main in Jeffersonville

I like the mountain, the slopeside condos, the top of the nothc, I just find the "bar" and restaurants at the mountain...ummm, lacking, not to mention that the "country store" is a total rip off...plus you end up hanging out with other flat-landers...which is kinda blah

But like it's been said, you mostly are going to be cooking in the condo...which are very nicely appointed...even the older ones...the gas fire places are a disappointment though

Just remember, the walls are very thin.....

As promised, here is my report! I was up Saturday, Sunday and Monday. And saw the conditions go from crap to pretty darn good in three days.

Saturday: I knew it would probably be kinda crappy but I hadn’t been up for nearly two weeks so it was good just to be up there. Skiing is skiing and skiing is fun. The whole mountain was pretty icy and crappy. The base of the mountain had all this sad looking brown ice crap. (They won’t post that in Hugh’s blog) But again, it was just good to be up there. I was with a buddy who usually snowboards but was trying skiing so we found ways to make the day interesting.

Sunday: They blew a ton of snow over night and received quite a bit of the real deal too. The snow was a lot softer and you could sink an edge even on the crappier spots.

Monday: This was the closest thing to a powder day that I had all year. I got up there early and got some shin deep freshness in many places. They opened some more trails which was nice because I’ve been skiing the same runs down since they opened. Smuggs Ally was awesome!
Unless you are on some well worn rock-skis, I’d shy away from Drifter if you are going to be there any time soon. I got some fresh tracks that were pretty sweet but the wind blown section near the chain link fence was, without exaggeration, either rocks or lumpy knobby, cruddy looking ice for long stretches of the trail. I don’t know why they opened it really. It eventually led to some nice snow but it was complete crap up top.
Other than Drifter, all open trails were pretty darn good. It pains me to be at work right now, looking out the window and seeing more snow come down. I’m sure it is just getting better and better. SKIQUATTRO, I’d say you’d be able to get some good skiing in. I wouldn’t call the trip off if I were you. I don’t know when you usually come up. It probably is not as good as you are used to, or as good as it usually is at this time of year but it is finally looking like winter out there and even though many of the trails are not open yet, there is still some descent skiing to be had.
Sorry for not posting any pics. My camera freezes up pretty quick in the cold.

-Dan
