Another silly survey. This one is from Snow East Magazine and is purely the product of public voting on their website.

Favorite Eastern Resort 1,100 feet and under: Seven Springs, PA
Favorite Terrain Park: Seven Springs, PA
Favorite Classic Resort: Ski Butternut, MA
Favorite Scenic View: Whiteface Mountain
Favorite Destination Ski Village: Lake Placid
Favorite Resort For Snowmaking: Seven Springs, PA
Favorite Resort For Grooming: Killington
Favorite Canadian Resort: Mont-Sainte Anne, Quebec

Looks like Seven Springs campaigned hard for votes. To their credit they do have fantastic snowmaking a huge park and make the most out of their 700 vert. Place parties like no other as well pretty much 7 nights a week. Its so close to Pittsburgh that people just flock there to booze and maybe ski a little.

Looks like there're 3 people voting, one from Killington, one from Whiteface and one from 7 springs.

They probably had to spin a wheel to pick a random Canadian resort.

Same results for these lists - generally are BS and everyone will have issue with it! The only place I have ever been to in that list is Killington. I think to be truly subjective the list should be made up but people who actually have been to all of the resorts which is nearly impossible. If I draw a 3 hour circle my list is different - dense population centers out weigh NH and VT choices by far.

Snow East is given out at ski shops. They had a lengthy article about Owl's Head. Do you think that Owl's Head had to pay for the article? They did have a full page ad, so maybe that is the quid pro quo.

I saw the SnowEast magazine at Wachusett's ski shop the other day. I flipped through while waiting for the shop to finish up some service tasks, at which point I encountered the above ski area rankings and their "reviews" of a couple models of every manufacturer's lineup for this coming season. Their "reviews" were devoid of any meaningful content and praised every ski "reviewed".

I kind of figured Snow East was basically one gigantic advertisement paid for by the ski areas and ski manufacturers.

I agree with 3 of the responses.

I agree with 1 (Lake Placid), though I've never skied eastern Canada, so I have to abstain from that one.

I kindof agree with the Whiteface view too given it's the "biggest" view and it is impressive, but I prefer the top of Stowe looking back at Lake Champlain on a really clear day.

Every "review" is like that. Outside of Blister Gear and someone posting on a forum like here or Epic, try finding a review of a ski that points out anything negative.

What you have to do is learn to read between the lines of marketing speak. Like when they say it's a very "playful" ski, you can assume it's on the softer side, while a "hard charger" is on the stiff side.

Given that seeing Lake Champlain from Stowe requires a hike that I'm guessing the vast majority of Stowe's winter visitors have never made, it's not surprising that that view is never mentioned.

I'm aware of "reading between the lines" for Ski/Skiing magazine reviews, but those at least have some content to read. These reviews were two sentence blurbs. For instance, they had this to say about the Blizzard 8.5ti:
Wide enough for powder, but strong enough for Eastern hardpack. Cruises beautifully.

I have no idea what to conclude from that.

For NH

New Hampshire
1. Loon Mountain
2. Wildcat Mountain
3. Cannon Mountain
4. Mount Sunapee
5. Bretton Woods
6. Gunstock Mountain
7. Waterville Valley
8. Pats Peak
9. Attitash
10. Cranmore

I'm glad Loon is at the top ... cause I never go there. Ragged not even in the top ten? That's too bad. I would think they're at least as good as Waterville ... and BETTER that Gunstock come on!
