That is correct & they have plans for that area.

http://landworksvt.com/project/killington-streetscape-2/

edit: Bills Country Store was bought by the towns Chamber of Commerce 2 years ago & is presently their headquarters.

They should contact the Mashpee MA town hall, who created an entire "downtown" area which is really just a glorified shopping mall, geesh. Really, has anyone in this plan been there? They want to enhance a traffic island??? Where are the people on the sidewalks coming from? Drunk college kids stumbling down the access road from the Wobbly Barn?? It's a highway.

DUH most major towns in VT. have a main thoroughfare running through it. In fact I'm not aware of many that don't. Isn't Main Street Waitsfield Rt. 100? How about Stowe? Chit Rutland has a main north south & east west route running through it as does Waterbury, Burlington etc, etc.... Perfect location for a town.

"Major" towns in VT have a thoroughfare running through them because the town was settled-- and eventually, the thoroughfare became a main roadway. The town wasn't "placed" on the main roadway, as Kmart seems to be suggesting (because of what it is apparently lacking?).

The actual point I was trying to make was regarding the 'article' about Kmart's CURRENT downtown.....which does not exist.

BTW, while Waterbury is very nice-- it is not an actual "ski town" unless you consider any town in a state with ski resorts to be a ski town. Oh, and Rutland & Burlington are cities. duh

I drive through here at least 4 times a year to visit the Longtrail Brewery, and I repeat....where is the town???

It's invisible like Brigadoon. Only diehard Kmart fans can witness the glory. I've never seen it.

Town of Killington (Sherburne) chartered 1761 (pop. approx. 900). Town of Warren chartered 1780 (pop. approx 1800). Seems the town of Killington has been around longer than Warren.

Not really sure how the town of Warren plays into this discussion about Killington missing a downtown area.

However, Warren DOES have a downtown area (small as it may be).

Since the town of Killington only runs up as far as West Hill Road most of the bars, hotels etc. at Killington (the ski area) are not in the town of Killington. No way would I rate the town anywhere near #1. The plans I posted above are going to be done by the town & has nothing to do with the ski area. Killington (the ski area) does have plans to build a village but many doubt it will ever get done, including myself.

They could make the intersection of 4 and the access road more inviting, but that's really about it. There are a few businesses at the intersection that do okay, but it lacks a lot of key components that would ever make it feel like a "Town or Village Center". I don't think you can just throw some nice sidewalks in, a traffic light and reduce the speed limit to 25 and call it a village. There's no lodging within walking distance of there. There's no residences. You'd have to build a giant parking lot and hope that people will come down the hill to hang out there. That's unlikely given all the restaurants and vast majority of retail are a couple miles up the hill.

I would think whatever the town has planned for there is a waste of money if it's anything more than a face lift.

There is a motel right there, post office, general store, liquor store & gas station in addition to quite a few retail stores & other businesses. Basically the same things located in most small rural towns. Speed limit is already 40mph in that area on rt. 4 & 35mph. going up the access road. Residences for the most part are off the main thouroughfare so they're not readily visible.

Forgot about the motel.

Like I said, a face lift will be nice. Stowe, Ludlow, Waitsfield, etc., that intersection will never be.

I never go through that intersection when going to K
Going up West Hill Rd., which I assume you're talking about, is part of the town of Killington. They just repaved it this summer so your drive should be better. The town ends right at the intersection of West Hill Rd. & the access road just before the Foundry. At least that's as far as the state would repave. The road anywhere beyond that point is the responsibility of the ski area to maintain.
