MONTPELIER, Vermont -- Snow has been falling in Vermont with some resorts receiving nearly two feet of snow since last week. This marks a significant change in weather for the second half of January which means that consistently colder temperatures and natural snow will make for excellent conditions to ski and ride. With more snow forecasted for next week and snowmaking operations running around the clock, winter is back with a vengeance.
Spirits around the state are on the rise as are trail counts for the weekend. All areas will have increased terrain, with some resorts projected to be anywhere from 75-90 % open.
"There is a positive change in spirits now that temperatures are consistently colder and areas are receiving snow daily," said Parker Riehle, President of Ski Vermont, the state's ski areas association. "Vermont's ski resorts boast 4,000 acres of terrain served by over 600 miles of snowmaking pipes and guns -- that's enough capacity to fill Gillette Stadium with over 40 feet of snow in one hour. We have three more months of skiing and riding in Vermont and we are looking forward to finishing the season strong."
