As a 25 year Patroller.... I'm gonna say the patroller should be fired.... If the boarder did violate something such as jumping /going too fast in a slow zone, then yeah he deserves to loose his pass too.

. Usually a warning for first offense is SOP.. 2nd offense - Your Pass is gone, anything more than a day ticket and you're gonna get a 1 on 1 with the Patrol Director (me) and a nice long video to watch for an hour or so, while your crew enjoys the rest of their day... Guaranteed, you (+ they) think about it next time.....

The reason he was stopped was because he practically rode over an instructors skies to hit a little jump. The patroler shouldn't have sworn at the kid, but he probably has to deal with punks like this all day. Stereotypes don't come out of thin air. If you don't want to be harassed stop doing stupid shit like this and pull up your pants.

Hey gramps, Snowbasin already admitted they were at fault, even said they were embarrassed. But I suppose youll keep on stereotyping boarders cause it makes you feel all douchey. Have fun.

Gramps? ya they admitted they were at fault because the situation was handled poorly, how do you think this would have turned out if the guy didn't swear. I'm not stereotyping boarders (i snowboard myself) just explaining that a lot of people feel this way about the 'park rats' because many of them are inconsiderate of others on the mtn. I don't care if you ski or snowboard, are 15 or 50, spend your days in the park or woods, but be considerate of the others on the mtn. IMO the kid didn't need to buzz an instructor to hit a jump.

My 2¢ - I don't think the kid was going all that fast. He come close to the instructor but not that close. The instructor didn't flinch or jump or flail - just watched dumbly as the kid did a little wussy jump. It might have been something else not in either video but the patrol definitely over reacted.

That being said I probably would have over reacted too with a teenager. They can't help looking like dorks. I don't mean that as an insult and I know they mean well but its just the way they're built. In a couple years they'll get used to their dorky bodies. Think about it. When these kids do this sort of thing when they are 5, 6 or even 8 its cute and people laugh. A teenager does it and it looks dorky and middle aged and old folk just get mad. Its all kinda funny if you step back and look at the big picture.

Ohhhh he said the F word... tisk, tisk.

Would it have been more appropriate if he said shut the hell up or just plain shut up?

Pretty much would have been the same thing

To much PC in this thread for me.

I saw nothing wrong with the patrollers actions.

... but that kid is a punk.

Yeah, pretty much. If the world made sense then patrollers would be empowered to wack him with a stick. BAM! Bad punk! Then put that video online. Fewer punks, perhaps.

I'm getting old.

some young people you just can't say anything to them, they get real mouthy right away, don't understand it. at work you try to politely critique what they are doing or try to show them a better way and you get their jaws going, won't take the time to listen.

That's a stretch. The patroller was stopped on the side not moving so it isn't like he cut him off, the snowboarder put in about 4 speed checks in the first 15 seconds of that video so he was hardly flying through a slow zone, and when he does get close to the guy standing there, the snowboarder is already downhill of him. If the snowboarder wipes out its his own problem, he couldn't possibly have wiped out into the ski patrol guy.

After watching the video, I don't see anything wrong with what the boarder did, well aside from the skinny jeans/pants. He seem to be going plenty slow enough for a slow zone, appeared to be completely in control and didn't come all that close to the ski school instructor when hitting the mole hill. Then that was compounded by the instructor/patrol blow up. If that was me, I probably would have taken my lumps and moved on unless the first course of action was to take the pass. Wasn't able to listen to the whole thing, wife is trying to watch the boob tube. Yes, I do ride vs ski, for whatever that is worth.

First, let's talk about the instructor's jackets. If I had to wear a cross between robin's egg blue and baby blue on top of being a ski instructor....well my ass would be tight and chapped at the same time. Second. So the kid cut it close to the baby blue guy stopped by the jump. He was in complete control and posed no danger or threat and easily stopped for the second tight assed baby blue. First instructor's reaction should have been, "Guess I'm standing too close to this little kicker." Second instructor's reaction should have been, "baby blue is standing too close to that kicker."

The kids were, I thought both being polite and reasonable...fashion choice aside.

And finally - the patroller is a complete ass and idiot. Just take the kids aside and say, " Look buddy you gots to watch out for these guys in the baby blue; their asses are chapped so efffing tight they can't even ski a lick. Just give 'em some more room and slow down a bit or next time I'm a gonna have to pull your pass for a couple o days."

You know, I was wondering what happened to Goose after Top Gun. I guess he went to work as an ambassador for Snowbasin. Man, that is quite a change going from Air Force jumpsuits to bright blue ambassador jackets!
