It sucks when they stop the chair and you're in gun range. I wonder if they'd have the courtesy (or the awareness) to turn off the guns if the chair actaully broke down.

It sucks when they stop the chair and you're in gun range. I wonder if they'd have the courtesy (or the awareness) to turn off the guns if the chair actaully broke down.

that section in the dark across from them on skier's left had some of the best snow left on the mountain too! i had a blast last night, just slightly salty that they didn't wait until i left to turn the guns on! and because i have to wait a few more weeks before going back to sundown and not have it be stupidly crowded!

Probably, I was wearing the same jacket as in my avatar and I was with a guy in all black. Both on boards. My only real complaint last night was that they didn't even try to clean the chairs off so we were basically sitting on a block of ice. My ass was frozen!!

It surely sucks, but is usually a necessary evil. Sometimes I feel like they can wait to turn a few guns on until after closing. But there are times like this past October at Killington, or a couple years ago at SR when they had 2 trails open, temps in the mid 30s, but guns still blasting every square inch to build as much of a base as they could. Was soaked to the bone after 2 runs both days. Of course after that day at SR, all the Killington fanboys came on and said "oh yeah... the great Killington would never do that. SR shouldn't be open." Bullshit... Killington does it every bit as much as SR. And all the power to them... its October and they need to take advantage of any possible window to make snow.
To me, the worst part is in December when it's near zero and places still blow wet guns, rendering goggles useless and also making it impossible to ski. Wachusett is very good about this as they'll only put tall tower guns and fan guns into operation on open trails, so it's mainly skiing through ice crystals with minimal sticking to goggles. But I've been places that put out tripods, aim them straight down at the trail, and blast you with instantly freezing water. That shouldn't happen on open trails. If you want to blow them on closed trails and build a base, go for it.

My only problem with this was one day at Sunapee, they had guns going under the lift and I watched my father in front of me eat it when unloading. My son and I had a laugh and they restarted the lift and we both ate it on the ramp, same as my father. The water from the guns had frozen to the bottom of our skis and they did not slide at all when they hit the snow on the ramp. After a few more people wiped out, they moved some of the guns.

As a daily regular there I must say the evening lifties pale in comparison to the service we get in the mornings to mid day. Chair cleaning is defiantly something they could work on a bit more...along with lift line maintenance. I think I have just become used to all this to the point to where its a mild annoyance at best.

These really do work.I very rarely have worn them but when I have they are worn under my pants cuz I think they look like crap.

Prefer when they pick runs where an operational lift isn't getting pounded, and that the trails with snowmaking in progress are open to skiers.

I know they're running guns during the day to beef up the amount of open terrain and improve the conditions, but I'd be a litle peeved if I got blasted on the chair. Haven't had that happen, except with the inevitable wind gust once in a while.
I've had a great time navigating the whales, too, as long as there is some way around them if it gets too hairy. But from now on, I'll probably skip those trails, even if it means I have to dumb down onto an easier run. Last week, had a fantastic run zooming by folks struggling on the whales at Stowe. But second time around, I ate it, binding didn't release and I am sitting here on the couch a week later with a torn MCL and meniscus. Sled rides are funner than you would think, however!

I was at Pico on Friday 1/3 it was brutally cold. I heard -6 sure the wind chill brought it down some more but the kicker was they were blowing snow under the main lift, Golden Express Quad, on the Expressway trail all day. When they finally opened the Summit Express Quad it was a relief to not be blasted by a series of guns. Usually a gun or two making snow I can just say oh well but it was brutally cold and adding the multiple guns under the main lift running up the mountain made me think they just wanted to torture us for being there!

I have seen those in use before but that part of my body usually is warm, the boot covers might come in handy once in awhile.
It's COOL when they run the snow guns while you're skiing! it's like your in a blizzard and keeps everything fresh!

Lol, what the hell are those? They look like some sort of homosexual chastity belt ;-) why not simply wear some type of gym shorts? Sandwiched between thermals & snow pants, they do a good job of keeping your butt dry.
