things are starting to shape back up around whiteface.

In Mid December people were poaching hip shots all over the mountain. Then we got a monsoon up here and pretty much lost everything in our front lawns two Sats ago.

The temps went back to normal and we have receiver about 15 inches after that. It has done nothing for the natural trails they are still wrecked for the time being. Tuesday before New Years I got first tracks in a few spots after 5 to 8 of heavy snow. Got some mid thigh shots on Essex( whiteface does not have powder). The trails with snowmaking have recovered and are in great shape. They are opening new trails on a daily basis with knee deep Manomade powder. Wilderness opened Sat. That is the run were the Bumps comps take place. Lots of big giant soft bumps there all weekend( only kidding whiteface does not have bumps).
The summit chair is running with Parons open with Great snow.
Later this week they are supposed to open the expansion. They have been trying for a couple of weeks but got there asses handed to them by Ma Nature.

Have been on the hill many times so far this year and have not had a bad day yet. It went from Feb powder cond. To March spring cond. back to early Jan condition all in a matter of seven day. Gotta love the north east.
I am amazed everymorning when I see the amount of snow they make now adays.

YUP but not that much. Went out this morning fired up the truck and took it off with the windshield wiper fluid. BTW We dont call it freezing rain around these parts, It is referred to as protective covering.
It is and has been snowing here for the past three hours. About an inch on top of the protective covering

Thanks for the report. Keep them coming! Looks like I'll be up there April 8-11making my first ever appearance at WF. I'm very excited. Will be bringing my non-skiing wife, so I will be skiing a couple days, and partaking in other activities a couple days. I always try to ski a new unfamiliar hill during the week.
Hopefully this is a good time to come, I know there's always risk this time of year, but then again, when isn't there risk? Haven't booked a room yet. Will take any and all suggestions before we start looking.

TJ, I was at WF this past weekend and enjoyed the big,soft, manmade moguls on Wilderness ( sorry WF does not have bumps) and also some decent cover on Parons and Mt. Run. IMHO the mountain must have been mostly " protective-covered " after the rains of Christmas week, and now they are blowing snow to restore some " skiability". Unfortunately, it gets skiied off by the end of the day. I heard from a Host that the snowmaking capabilty is caught between trying to open the Wilmington Trail or working on restoration ( and Skyward and Cloud. ) They can't do both at the same time. On Sunday we went down to Gore which had better snow conditions than WF. We need some snow.

Lookout Mt. (new pod) opened yesterday with the 2.5 mile Wilmington Trail. I wasn't there, but of those I've communicated with who where everybody liked it alot.

Great weekend at WF. 10 inches of fresh pow Sunday morning. There where 3 slab avalanches on Upper Skyward that closed it down for a couple of hours early in the morning. Lookout Mt. opened.

Sounds great, HPD. We need more WF trip reports here on AZ IMHO. I do lurk over at SkiADK but it's great to see them over here also.

What do you think about the Wilmington Trail? I read some of the initial feedback about it over at SkiADK but am curious about your impressions.

I think the lookout trail is going to be a great crowd disperser on the busier days. It can be a tough trail for an intermediate skier but they will be able to get down it. Its long with a whole different vibe. I guess that can be attributed to the fact that it is a totally different hill. It is pretty cool how they mowed down a swath of high elevation trees on top of a 4k hill to make a ski trai for us. the two other trails serviced by that lift are going to be treat for anyone who will be able to ski it.
Bottom line. Whiteface makes you better. Customers are apprehensive at the time but at the end of the day they know they skied a hill and are pretty impressed with themselves.
Hoyts High is going to be a great trail. Lookout below is going to be a quicky, People will be thinking "legs dont fail me now". You fall on lookout there is a good chance you are not going to stop till you hit a tree.

The chair is in a great location. You can get right off the Facelift and get on it or the Summit Quad.

Great views that you can’t see from anywhere else

It’s long – 2 ½ miles

You can’t see another trail or lift from it.

You experience a lot of different terrain types on your way down

The first mile of so is easy cruising with lots of back and forth turns in the trail.

Then you come to a choke where to skiers left you have to be careful not to fall over the side edge cause there is a steep drop-off and there are rocks skiers right.

It gets steeper with more turns, more cliffs and rocks skiers right that the adventurous huck so you have to keep an eye out for them.

Trail gets even steeper before it comes to an end.

It really is a very unique experience.

It’s rated blue, but it’s a very dark blue.
